I have braces (1 year and 7 months so far)
They do not hurt that much, I mean the first 3 months they're ver uncomfortable but later on you'll get used. btw they´ll usually hurt whenever you get new wires but nothing a pill or two can´t handle.
Again do no fear them, just be prepared to change your food habits during the next 3 months xD

I had braces for about three years. Got them off before I entered freshmen year in high school (what a relief). First they put on the top ones which really hurt a lot and I had too eat mushy soft foods then the bottoms ones which again I had to eat soft food. Sometimes the wires cut into cheek or lip when you sleep or if you hit your face on a brick wall like I did. 🤣 After a while you won't know they're there.

My boys got theirs off after just under two years, and are now wearing their retainers - all the time except when eating for two months, then just at night "forever".
They really didn't complain about much discomfort; I think they needed ibuprofen maybe four times over 23 months of having braces. However, one of these kids knocked out three front teeth at around age 8-9, had them put back in at the emergency room, had one dose of ibuprofen, and was back to normal...so they may not have very sensitive teeth. 🤣

Thankfully I've never needed braces.

I have no braces and I haven't experienced wearing it. But my friend tell me a testimony about her braces. At first, she can't eat well and she even can't speak directly. It somewhat funny on her case but she tried to manage it and she's been enjoying her braces now.

I can't remember, it's been so long. But after the braces I had a this retainer that was molded in the shape of the teeth and it was clear, and really cool. No one could tell that I was wearing it and it didn't hinder my speech or anything : )
My pup ate it though >:-(
And I didn't want to tell my dad cause he would get angry (he hates my dog) so I just left it at that. (Had to hide all the ortho calls/letters though) My teeth aren't totally straight now but they are so much better than they used to be and I'm fine with smiling so I guess it's all good.
Just, you know, don't let your animals chew on it 🤢

LOL... Those are the retainers my boys have. If they lose 'em, it'll cost close to $100 to replace. 🤢 Did your parents never check to make sure you were wearing it? I nag my boys about it constantly, & check to make sure they've got the things on.

I just got my braces off less than 2 weeks ago. I had them for about 3 years. XP and to me they hurt really bad at first. The only thing I hated about them was how they tear up the inside of your mouth. And the wax sucks! as soon as ya take it off it just starts to hurt all over again. So I never used it.
I gotta tell ya, I would rather still have braces than the f***ing retainers. T_T I can't eat with em', I can't talk with em', and my dad laughs at me. I think I would have rather kept my gap I had. Its better than the retainer-for-life. -_-v

Apparently, the worst your teeth were the more braces hurt to have installed. Once the numb-stuff wore off, I was sobbing. >> I couldn't eat solids for weeks, either. (I had the buckest teeth you would ever see)
Now I have nice, straight teeth and retainers. In December I'm allowed to wear them only too sleep. 🙂 I hated braces, but I don't mind retainers as much.
Never had or needed them, I've seen alot of people get them that didn't need them in the first place either.
😔 such a shame.

I have no clue how I managed. I guess they didn't check?
I honestly can't remember. 🤢
