I don't really care about the gender of the mangaka. I look at their names, but not the gender.

I choose depends, because for example when I read Bitter Virgin manga by Kosunoki Kei I thought that the mangaka was a man, and I got a little perplexed of how a guy could write something like that, but when I found out that Kosunoki was actually a woman I was able to see the manga with different eyes (to the point in thinking being a man was a bad thing).

My opinion of the manga doesn't change, but my opinion about the author does in a positive way. I just love how they branch into demographics.

lol i change my opinion or appreciation of something i guess, but i won't stop reading a good series just cause the gender was unexpected.

tbh i thought ichigo 100 was just some pervy fan based series (which it is) written by some dude who doesn't have a handle on reality of girls, but finding out the mangaka was a woman made me reread it while taking in some emotional aspects in. i guess she has to know something herself.

Not really but once I found out that the Hitman Reborn author was female, it just all made sense to me. I was wondering why it was starting to go downhill and why there were so many gay undertones between the males and finding out that the author was female just cleared it all up for me.

It didn't change my disappointment with the series but I now know why.

I don't really check out their gender whether is that mangaka a female or male.
But when I do "accidentally" find it out,
For example: Dengeki Daisy,
I'm kind of surprised that a guy can actually write and draw such shoujo-ish story!!!
O.O I don't usually find a guy mangaka doing shoujo manga. (or maybe i just didn't notice them?)

I'm usually surprised than disappointed.

Edit: I would never NOT read a book based on the authors gender. I just approach familiar genres differently depending on the authors gender.

Gender doesnt bother me, regardless of the manga genre.

Besides, Shoujo is one of the most clicheed genre = less experience needed to write it.

I'd be prolly surprised only to find a female mangaka writing guro genre. Prolly.

I don't even think about the gender of the mangaka while I'm reading the manga. It doesn't matter at all to me.

Just read anything by HIBAKICHI, it will open your eyes on how GURO guro can be if done by a female author 🙂
I can come up with at least a few more female manga-kas (crosses with yaoi, as that's what I read most), if anyone is interested.
