I was reading Dengeki Daisy (a Shoujo) when I realized that the manga-ka was a man. I was slightly taken aback and suddenly I found myself making judgments of the manga, blaming it on the Manga-ka's gender.

Basically my question is does it bother you when men write shoujo or when women write shounen? Do you think there is a difference?

Edit: I would never NOT read a book based on the authors gender. I just approach familiar genres differently depending on the authors gender.

I simply appreciate what talented people have to offer,
I've always separated them from their work.

As for shoujo and co., I don't associate them with male/female.
Though if a male drew something like Moe Kare or Full Moon, I'd laugh at the picture in my head, but I wouldn't appreciate his work any less, that sort of thing would not surprise me, nor does it make me think of the manga differently, since gender means nothing.

It's more like surprise and praise for the mangaka.

Usually like, "Wow, s/he did that?! Amazing!" Like FMA and Dengeki Daisy's mangaka. FMA is one of the BEST shounens out there (in my humble opinion!) And it's by a woman? EVEN BETTER! It was great before I found out. Still great after I found out.

Well basically, it doesn't bother me. Just another fact about who creates what, that makes me smile~ (:

Your friend...
is a tool.

Why on god's green earth would someone drop a manga they were previously enjoying just because they discover the gender of the person behind it?
So he/she ended up missing out on one of the most best/controversial shonen romance manga...D=

Personally, I don't really care.
I didn't know FMA was done by a female though xD
Now it all makes sense o_o (Why its so...emotional)

DGM is also done by a female and it's also a great shonen - not to mention Katsura-sensei is pretty fine lookin' 😎

Erm, well it doesn't really matter. In fact, sometimes I don't even know the gender of the mangaka. I assume most of the manga I read are done by males, but if I found out a female was behind one of them, if anything I'd think she's awesome 🤣

So no, doesn't really bother me.

I don't give a shit, to me what matters is the manga itself not who wrote it.

Nope. You're not good or bad because you're X gender writing in Y genre. You're just good or bad.

Should this be on the General manga discussion?

On-topic, It doesn't matter for me weather the mangaka's male or female as long as the manga is good.

It really doesn't matter. Gender has nothing to do with it.
If anything the mangaka having an unexpected gender only makes it more enjoyable because it's kind of cool.

No, the only thing that matters is if the manga itself is good or not.
