I always thought/assumed that Yoruichi was a captain :/ You're right it doesn't explicitly state that she was a captain. She was the leader of the General of the Keigun Brigade of the 1st Division and the commander of the shinigami special forces. But the fact that she is much stronger than Soi fong who is a captain, makes me think that she was.

Well that's right no one has ever said Isshin was a captain, but he does have a captains haori. And he strongly implies he has captain level strenght. <3 Gosh that was a sexy chapter.

@spanky151 - Yoruichi clearly revealed that Urahara was a Captain to Ichigo in ch. 130 pg 12.

That's understandable.. I thought that too.. But she never was a captain I'm sure of it.. There are three sections in Soul Society.. The Gotei 13, The Special Forces and the Kidou corps.. Though there's very little information about the latter..

Yoruichi trained to be the leader of the Special Forces, and never had any aspiration to being a captain in the Gotei 13..

Also the leader of the Special Forces is equivalent to the commander-general of Gotei 13, in terms of status..

And just because she's strong, doesn't mean she has to be a captain.. Example: Kuukaku Shiba, and the Royal Guards of the Spirit King..

I have to say

1. Yamamoto
   2/3. Ukitake/Shunsui (can't really tell. and though Ukitake is an invalid it's obvious he has great power. He just can't fight often.)
   4.Zaraki
2. Byakuya

I debated about putting Aizen on here, even though he's obviously vastly strong and he's one of my favorite villains, but he's one that we simply have little to no measure of his power. minus the fact that ever espada seem to be scared of him to some agree and he most have at least something to keep them all in line. I'm pretty positive he deserves to be up there.

I'm not so sure Kisuke is super strong. I'm still debating it. I used to think he must be a beast, but recently I've been thinking maybe he's just not capable of keeping up anymore. I'm just drawing this from random context clues though, and they tend to be ambiguous. They could mean he's super beast as well.

Also Isshin, I'm curious as to where he stands. he has like a torn Captain's jacket and is obviously beast. And from all that can be seen at this point the (shinigami) source of Ichigo's powers.

I guess I just mainly went with current captains and speculated about some former ones.

I know it's been a long time since I read through bleach--which showed in the other post where I didn't recall Kaname took that woman's zanpakutou--but while it was never explicitly stated that she was a captain, I though it was stated that the position that she held was defaultly the captain of whichever squad. I am totally open to being flat out corrected on this beings I don't trust my memory of something I read so long ago. But if I have time to find where it says this (if it says this) I'll give the heads up.

No, it's not.. Trust me, I'm sure of this one.. 😛 You can even rewatch/read the fragment between Yoruichi and Byakuya.. There, Byakuya will state her previous positions, and being a captain of a Gotei 13 division isn't one of them..

I just think that Soi Fong became greedy, and also wanted a position in the Gotei 13.. 🤣 😀 😛

couse well, he is just great, and...

he was capible of toying with yammi or whatever that big espada's name is, without even trying.

2.yamamoto, as much as i hate to say it
couse he is the general of the gotei 13, and with the strength there, he has gotta be amazing, but, seeing his shiki form thingy
3.zaraki, if he could ever reach banki and get along with his sword...
he has immense spirtual power, and thats even when he dident even know the name of it

he is so cool, and his hypnosis thing is amazing, so i just wanna see his banki
5.isshin, i would put him higher couse he actully seems stronger than some of the others, but he is a bit odd if you ask me...

If you think Urahara's strong now, just wait till we see his bankai. His swords a girl, so I'm hoping it'll take the form of a hot chick. 😀

How superficial. >.<

But Benihime is one of the rare female Zanpaktous. And it kinda matches Urahara, since he's sort of a 'ladies man'.

I don't think the strength of Urahara lies is in his Bankai. Sure, it's strong. But his most redeeming feature is his intelligence and experience.

Do we know of other zanpakutos that are female? I was thinking it was Kyōraku Shunsui's having it be female would fit him to a T, twins even!

Nope, I can't seem to remember another female Zanpakuto. >.< Urahara is unique. 🤣 And I don't think that Shunsui's Zanpakuto is female, though I can't say that with certainty since we haven't seen much of it.
