Human bones could reveal truth of Japan's 'Unit 731' experiments. More than 60 years after the end of the Second World War, the name "Unit 731" still has the power to generate shock, revulsion and denial in Japan

It's important to get the facts right in history, but the "young ones" in Germany have nothing to do with the war and have nothing to apologize for, because they weren't the ones responsible for the war crimes... It is good however to keep the past in mind when making decisions about the future, so it is kind of stupid of Japan for being in denial about their war crimes. (IMHO America's nuking of Japan was a war crime too, too bad the victors write history... Still if nuking civilians, children and all isn't a crime, what is?)

Warn: Banned

The massive genocide by the Nazis on the Jews somehow made people forget the similar atrocities that happened in China and Korea[and various other nations]. Japanese imperial army back then tested similar experiment on the human bodies to that the the Nazis. It's even more saddening that the Japanese textbook does not mention the atrocities they have committed. Even more angering is the fact that some of their text book legitimized their actions during WWII. Japan is a very modern country, yet they cannot bring themselves to admit their wrong doing during WWII. There was a controversy back a few years ago when the Japanese government official and emperor visited and prayed to their ancestors, many of whom were bad people during WWII. You can imagine similar anger if Germany started to worship Hitler and his generals. It's strange......

I remember a documentary made a few years back about this. It was taken from various journals and seen from the eyes of an American journalist who was captured during WWII and taken into a Japanese camp. He witnessed many terrible things...

After I watched it I wanted to tell myself like I do after watching horror films: "It's all fake, it's only fiction, they don't exist." Unfortunately, in this case, it did happen. Terrible things happened. To deny history is to deny the suffering and terrible fate of the victims. To deny history is to support the hatred of those criminals. Criminals who committed crimes against humanity. Notice, not just crimes, but crimes against humanity. A crime against who we are as human and our existence. They not only denied the lives of the victims but also our existence and very being.

I believe this has somewhat already been used in a manga. You should check out Pumpkin Scissors.

I feel absolutely astonished that I never even heard about this before. Am I the only one? But that is sick. And, for the sake of history, I hope that they seriously examine these bones and mass grave sites. You can only go so far denying these kinds of atrocities...

I havent heard of it until now either! I mean, I know about Nazi experiments and I assumed that they were not the only ones doing such things, but man, that's so aweful! No one has to apologize for it because they didn't do it personally, but no one should be denying that something so horrible happened. It's so disrespectful of the people who had to live and die through it!

There's a difference between nuking and bombing? Every country that played a part in world war II is responsible for countless deaths of civilians. Not that there's really a difference between civilians and military anymore.

EVERYTHING in war is a crime relative to peacetime actions.

Who in their right mind would go ahead and write or draw something that would discredit their own country?

😐

And this is why many Chinese still harbor a strong dislike towards the Japanese.
It's a shame that the Japanese of this generation know little to nothing about the horrendous atrocities committed in WWII.

Americans do it all the time, I don't see why it would be so hard for a japanese manga-ka to create something that would put their country in a negative light.

The difference is, Japan itself is still in denial about the whole situation. Now, I don't think it would be the appropriate time for a mangaka to be implying something like that in his/her works. As far as freedom of expression goes, I don't think Japan's quite the same as America - (in terms of being extremely opinionated and the like). We also have to keep in mind that very few people know about this, as a result of the government's thorough filtration of Japan's history. Besides, we aren't talking about some petty politics (as I know a fair amount of Americans who criticize their government). This is an unfavorable war crime which involved the heinous slaughter of several hundreds of thousands of human beings.
