Quote from Alaena Night

... I don't particularly prefer either "shoujo" or "shounen" because both usually include the same-old same-old plotline used over and over again - shoujo with the unrealistic schoolgirl romance, and shounen with the power-ups and endless fights and long, boring spiels about, "Becoming stronger to protect my friends..." and all that.

^ So much truth. But to be fair, genres don't always make or break the manga. For me, it's alll about the characters. If I like the characters enough, I can sometimes excuse the cliches being thrown around. But unfortunately, this doesn't happen often enough.

As for me, I'm female, and used to read a ton of shoujos.. but now I'm tired of most of 'em. They generally don't excite me anymore. Every now and then I do find some worth reading, but that's when it doesn't focus on romance. Nowadays it's seinen and maybe a few shounen sports I actively read.

In general though, I do try to give a story a chance if the premise seems interesting enough, whether shoujo or shounen. The only genre I mostly ignore are ecchi, harems, shoujo/shounen-ai, yuri/yaoi. Seriously, SO many shounen/seinen manga are ruined by the disgusting amount of ecchi shots thrown in there. Ugh.

I'm a girl and I'm open to any genre. As long as it good of course. I was once a big shoujo and josei's fan but lately it seems that I'm falling into a deeper stuff rather than romance as its main plot and into something that is more psychological and action stuffs... But, I will return to shoujo and josei manga one day of course. probably when I'm bored with shounen and seinen's. IDK.

I'm female but I've never read much shoujo. The first mangas I came in contact with were all shounen (Bleach, naruto etc) and it wasn't until a few years later that I actually read my first shoujo. I didn't really like them, but there are a few exceptions. Nowadays I mainly read seinen and shounen, and the occasional jousei
