As I remember from MU poll about 80% of voters have problems with eyesight. Did you consider to improve it yourself with exercises and stuff, i.e. Bates method? Has anyone heard/thought about/did that?
I wear glasses constantly which is kind of a blocker, but I am sure in my case I can get out if taken seriously.

No, I've never thought about it.
I didn't even know there were exercises to improve eyesight.
I just wear my glasses all the time. I don't want laser surgery either. I value my eyesight far too much to risk the chance of being the unlucky person where things go wrong.

I've heard about it... my nephew's doctor prescribed it for him after he had a surgery to correct his Amblyopia (focusing on something close then something far away and repeat).

I used to wear glasses, but after I started taking multivitamins/doing eye exercises and eating a lot more healthily, I felt my eyesight improve dramatically over a long period of time. I haven't touched my glasses in months.

Never heard about it.
But I'm a lost cause.
My eyesight is -11.5 and I wear normal contacts.

I don't think it's possible. I heard of lots of products or eye exercise regimes that claim it works. I've tried some and they don't work. All I can do now is to stop my eyes getting worse. I wear contacts and glasses but I find contacts preferable because it relaxes my eye muscles....

Improve?
I'm just hoping the degrees stay where they are so they won't get worse. 🤣

Sweet, finally somebody around with worse eyesight then myself. Very few people pass the -10.0 mark.

I guess since I work in an eye care clinic, I should shed some light. Your eyesight is based on various factors, and depending on what is affecting your eyesight, exercise may or may not show improvement. Remember, your eye is a lot like a camera with a focus lens, and when you turn the lens clockwise or counter-clockwise, those are the muscles that constrict or dilate your pupils as well as shape the lens within your eye. Because of this, the muscles can be trained and strengthened by doing exercises like someone mentioned earlier. The exercise consists of focusing somewhere near, then changing focus to something far away. This process is repeated to exercise the muscles in the eye, mind you, like most exercise, it needs to be daily and consistent for any noticeable result.

With that said, most eye-related problems have nothing to do with the muscles in the eye. Aside from old age which causes your lens to harden, therefore making it difficult to change shape (focus), most eye related problems can be rooted somewhere else. The eye is a complicated lens system that works on precise measurements, and these measurements tend to change over time. Myopia (shortsightedness) is caused either by an elongated eye or a lens that is too powerful, causing the image to stop before it hits the back of the eye. Hyperopia on the other hand is the opposite (too short, or too weak which causes the image to appear behind the eye). These problems are often attributed to defects in eye-shape, lens power, or cornea related problems, which means exercises won't improve your eyesight. Often, surgery or lenses is the only way to improve your vision.

Lastly, amblyopia or lazy eye, is an issue in which one eye is so severely weakened that the mind focuses and depends solely on the other eye for most of the vision. Because of this, the lazy eye never gets stronger, but if it is caught early (particularly in infancy or childhood), the doctor may cover the dominant eye, keeping it closed for a long period of time. This forces the child to use the weak eye and to develop the muscles around it well. If all goes well, the lazy eye will become strong and healthy, and the child can then use both eyes, but the age is quite important. The older or more developed the person is, the less likely their eyes will show improvements.

I hope this was a little bit informative, I'm actually still quite new to the clinic so I'm not an expert on the field or anything, but amblyopia and eye exercises were some topics covered.

i came across some pretty crazy "glasses" a while ago that my friend had, unfortunately i cant remember their name or exact use so i will simply describe them. Instead of any glass the lenses were a hard black plastic with a whole lot of holes punched through them, this allowed you to see through the lens with minimal loss of sight. Now here is where it gets interesting because if your short sighted and put these glasses on they relax your eyes in a way that gives you 20/20 vision. Not exactly sure how they work but i tested them with my own -10 vision and i could see distances fine

I've heard of it, but since my nearsightedness is caused by thickening of the cornea (I think...it's been a long time since the eye dr. actually told me what's causing it) exercises wouldn't do me any good. I guess -4.25 is considered "moderate" but it's still a pain to deal with. 🤢
