Can someone explain to me why sports manga are so popular? I admit, I've just never got it. There are other genres I avoid, but at least can understand why people may want them. I've given a few a try from time to time, but just never got hooked by any of them, like for example Prince of Tennis. There is so much of that out I figured it must be good to be that popular, but there was nothing to keep me reading.

There sure are alot of sports manga..... Maybe cause it's original. Cause if some shounen mangaka was to think up of some supernatural manga, one element would be "compared to another (more popular) manga." or something similar.. But well, i'll be looking forward to them. 🙂

Most sports manga suck, no question about that. But the good ones are usually good not because of the sport or what little story there is but because of the characters and their interactions. In that sense they're just like every other kind of manga.

I read some sport manga like Eyeshield, Slam Dunk, and prince of tennis but i dont read it because of the sport rather its the unique story and special skill (wtf its impossible) :/ that make the manga so attractive.
