Hello. I was hoping I could get some recommendations for summer manga reading from the good people of these forums. I've found a couple of old threads in here about historical manga, but they don't seem to be pointing me to what I want, so I thought I would try again.

I'm a huge fan of:
Historie
Vagabond
Vinland Saga

...And I would like to find something else in the same vein.

I don't necessarily need gritty realism, and I'm not opposed to historical fantasy (I loved Shin Angyo Onshi). However, I do want to avoid mangas like Anatolia Story. I'm not so much interested in sparkly-pretty history or historical romance. I prefer more realistic drawings of figures and faces and I like manga that show the hardships of daily life in the past.

Any ideas? ....And thanks in advance!

Hrm, I haven't read a lot of historical manga. Besides the ones you mentioned, I've only read Threads of Time. Sorry. 😐

I second Threads of time. It's a masterpiece. This manga shows you the horror of war like none other manga I've read so far. The story is really captivating.
