Read the last volume then reread the entire volume slowly. even if that take me all night... Weird thing is that i usually read manga quickly..

but sometimes i totally forget what it's about and have to re-read everything

I like to start over from volume 1, because for me it's really important to take in the atmosphere of the whole manga. If, after some time, I start reading the new volume without reading the previous volumes first, the mood will be gone and the manga won't seem nowhere near as good as I remembered the previous volumes to be.

I have to re-read the previous volume to remember what the heck was going on (and make the story flow into my brain once again) before the current volume. I read a lot of manga so it kind of jumbled up in my mind...but I guess, if the story made a great impact on me or if I liked the ending of the last volume, then I won't have to re-read it because it will be in my head.

...So, I guess it depends on the series itself.

TLDR:
If the last volume of the series I wanted ended beautifully, I won't have to. If it ended suckily, I will. 😀

I will just about always reread the last chapter of the previous volume to remember the 'note' it left off on.

There have been a few times I reread previous volume(s) or started over but they were all because I took forever to get back into the series and not because of a long wait between series
