Memory - How well is your memory?
How does it effect your life? Anything else related to how well your memory is that you want to comment on?
I have a ... great memory. Other than a few things like remembering people's faces, names, or a string of numbers .... My memory is pretty good. Thing that sucks though is how I can't really reread manga for at least 5 years. Same with movies I don't rewatch something unless 5 years have past. Exceptions would be if I really liked it, and want to burn it into my head. However most of the time if I try to reread a manga (that's good, but not a favorite) I'll get bored, and end up skimming it. Which always makes me on the hunt for something new to read.
Sidenote- I did a bit more searching to see if there was a thread like this, and couldn't find one. If there was one I'll be a sad panda when this thread gets locked. Sad Panda. 😔
Yes yes, I know I make longwinded comments, but that's just me >.<
I should proof read my comments more, but I won't...
So keep in mind I'm filled with typos

Sadly, I've had terrible memory the last couple of years. I've forgotten names of several class mates in college and high school not to mention trouble remembering names in general such as people and places unless mentioned/visited a lot.
Directions are also a problem for me unless I've walked there myself.

Selective, but great. I can remember information extremely well - text, numbers and so on(memorized 80 pages of text and formulas in 2 days), but have a lot of trouble remembering people and memory(what I did a few days ago). The thing about people is that I can remember their names, but not how they look. If I tried I could probably recall all the names of my classmates form middle, high school and university, but give me an album with pictures and I probably could only name my closest friends.
When I was going to university I went to a seminary about memory and effective learning methods. Well it was less a seminary then the professor making us do a lot of IQ tests and the sort, but we got credits for it so who cares. According to him my mind works in odd ways, but it's highly efficient at information processing. If he had met me at middle school age I might have been able to get something that is almost the same as photographic memory as long as we're talking about text type information only.

I'm fairly good at remembering facts, numbers, and faces in the long term but I forget names almost as soon as I hear them. I think it may be that I tend to become so nervous when meeting people and get preoccupied with what to talk about that it tends to slip my mind really quickly.
Real photographic memory doesn't exist by the way or at least it is highly unlikely that it exists, which is good as not existing on a very small batch of people like MU, so any shame-driven self-boasting person can already avoid voting for that if you don't want to make a fool of yourself. There are some people who can remember really detailed stuff well for a short time, mainly autistic people, but you can't remember what a book's page says and read it in your mind after a day, like you can remember what you ate yesterday.
I myself have a pretty bad memory in some areas, some less, can't remember what I was bad at, a good example. If I am frustrated, I don't remember much. My mental state, stress and current thoughts affect it a lot, just like any person really, maybe a bit worse at the very moment.
Good for some things, bad for others. I am terrrrible with directions. I always write them down word for word now.
Good for school. During tests I would only have to study hours before the test. I would read over my review sheets (time depended on length) and could recite everything back word for word for the next few hours.
I can't remember anything from my childhood and I am pretty bad with names and faces. Great with numbers though.

I have to thank you again. It's been a while since I've had this much d**k on my computer. :'3
Short term one is fairly good, which was a big help in school, but long term one is exactly the opposite, to the point I sometimes almost finished reading a book to realize I had read it already...

My memory is weird. 😐
I can remember the artist & title of most 80s-early 90s songs, but if I don't take a list to the grocery store I'll probably forget half the things I planned to buy.
If I've physically done something several times - like knitting, or taking a certain route to get somewhere - I'll probably be able to do it again, but if I've just read how to do something, I'll need to refer to the instructions over & over to be able to do it.
If I'm in charge of navigating somewhere even once, whether that's walking or being the driver, chances are I'll remember it for a long time; if I'm not in charge of getting there chances are I won't remember how to get there AT ALL unless it's a constant route and/or I make a real effort to remember the way.
Books...yeah...I re-read because I like the book, not because I can't remember what happens. Recently I read a mystery that I read ~30 years ago (...when I was 10-12 years old...), and though I couldn't remember the plot details I definitely remembered that I had read it. Most mysteries I read once and then I'm done, because if I re-read them, even if I don't remember the whole plot from the beginning, by the time I'm halfway through I usually remember the main points.
If I can turn something into a song, I can memorize pretty much anything. In college my Business Statistics professor required us to write down some definition word-for-word on an exam, so I turned the damn thing into a stupid little song and not only did I get it right on the test, I could still sing the song several years later. 🤣 (Can't remember it now, but if someone gave me the beginning I'd probably remember the rest...) Songs I haven't heard for years, if I can just get one part of it, it's like a connected chain and pretty soon I've got the whole thing again.
I'm terrible at remembering new names, even though I try really hard. 😔 I think it's because I get nervous & that messes with my memory.

It depends. I easily remember some things like facts, song lyrics, formulas, names. I memorize things easily if I'm given time like for exams. I also can't remember much about my childhood but maybe that's because of a traumatic incident. Some times I can't remember things that happened yesterday but I can remember exactly what happened months ago.
My mom often quarrel because of this. She'll say that she remembers differently and that since my memory is poor, what I remember is incorrect. I don't have poor memory. Rather, I think, I remember things that I want to and like to remember. And forget all the thingsthat my brain deem unimportant and are of no interest to me.

Maybe mine is quite good..
Maybe, maybe..
If I would have an Examination tomorrow, I wouldn't even bother studying today, not one bit and just play around or do something fun...
I'd study the day of the exam, around, 4am to 6am, two hours for 2 subjects is more than enough for me,
believe it or not, I'll pass with an above average score...

Mine is weird.
I remember random fun facts that I probably won't have any use for (except in a social context) really well but if I have to memorize dates or phone numbers I'm stumped. Even now I only remember my cell no. and even with that I sometimes get confused 🙄
In the short term I can remember names and faces pretty well but after a while I only remember the names.
When it comes to studying, it used to be a lot better 2 years back but now it's about average I guess.
Also I remember book plots really well so the only reason i would reread a book was if the language was interesting or if there were sub plots/symbolism etc that i wanted to analyse.
I give up. I see not point in living if I can't be beautiful.

My memory is great only when it's concerning academic stuff like history, geography, etc. Other than that, my memory's pretty bad, but not that bad.

My memories only good when it comes to remembering things that I care about or that left an interesting impression on me. It takes me a little while to memorize names. I tend to typically have a songs lyrics and harmony memorized on the first, second or third time listening/singing it, depends on how much I like the song and if I'm really listening to it.
Remembrance, a forsaken thing that revokes ignorance and leaves people in doubt, is my only redemption and solace deep within the cascade of white.
