Why is it that the straight guy who looks like a girl never gets the girl?

Seriously. In so many shoujos, there'll be a hot straight guy (with undoubtedly a million girls lusting after him) who happens to have girlish features and he never get's the girl. Why is that?

Maybe girly guys aren't popular in shoujo. I know in yaoi and shounen ai they are.

Here's a few where the girlish looking guy gets the girl:
W-Juliet
Grand Sun
Model
Tenshi Ja Nai!!
Itadakimasu
Alexandrite
(not really a spoiler since its so very obvious)

I really, honestly don't understand.
Personally I end up crushing on the hot bishie guy, but he never gets the girl!

What's so bad about them? It's just like all those guys with long hair in Shoujo mangas ... they don't get the girl, or they get a haircut then they get the girl.
What's bad about guys with girlish features and/or long hair? Seriously. -_-

Seconded.
I love long hair ~
Why must they cut it 😢

Maybe the really beautiful boys don't win in many modern shoujo because they have often have bad personalities?

i think that this is take like a rule in shoujo or josei mangas~ The bad and rude guy ALWAYS gets the girl BUT the girly and handsome guy NEVER win!... He's like the BFF~

Or maybe... he's too perfect!

ps: in reality i don't like long hair guys, but in mangas and animes... there's hot guys with girly hair!
The vampire in Model is smexy~

Maybe because he's too much of a good catch for the girl........
OR... his girlish features would be too weird for him to be with the girl.........

Chyeah.

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

Many authors still follow the same safe old age "dream guy/dream boyfriend" archetype that exist in countless stories. The guy is usually strong looking or just plains strong because he's the "man". He may be mean but is mysteriously kind to the person he likes. He may be cruel but mysteriously he's soft to small animals too. He may verbally abuse or ignore her for fun or do other thing that make him a creep but but deep down inside he loves her....so eventually she loves him too and can't leave him, yada yada.

Many authors stick to this same character types for their male characters, even a few of my favourite authors. If the male doesn't fit any of those descriptions from above, chances are he's not going to get the female.... unless he's the main character in the stories.

Look at stories where the female is surrounded by a bunch of men. The tough or mean or can't express his feeling well is usually the one the female falls for.

Many gender roles created by societies are too strongly embedded in our lives that we are not likely to escape from them anytime soon, even in stories.

The author is trying to leave it open for the reader's imagination. A perfect guy is to fall in love upon, while a faulty, weak, ordinary character can make the reader cheer for his love. So in the end the author is just trying to please the readers, so that the bad boy/underdog/geek finds happiness in the heroine, and the chivalrous bishonen is still single for the readers to drool upon.

Just a thought.

If I was the heroine, I wouldn't really want to date someone that looks like me, or better yet, someone who looks more of a girl more than I do.
But then again, you have a point, I've always wanted to see a story with the feminine guy ending up with the girl too, instead of like the bad-boy, tough guy. 😢

Yes so much. Those are often my favorites, especially if they have a somewhat edgy personality that contradicts their lovely looks. I actually prefer a bad boy who looks like a lady XD.

My theory is unoriginal: this is a kind of "fetish" fanservice. As in, this type isn't popular enough with the general shoujo audience to make him the winner, yet he has his share of fangirls, which is why he gets included. Just like megane girls in harems.

Another trend, I guess, is meant to make the whole plot appear more down to earth? When the hero who gets the girl is rather average, although still cute, and the beautiful guy turns out to be either mean or just not fit for a relationship.

because they are pretty to look at but that's it. I love myself some androgenous men but i'll probably never take one home. Honestly, I like being the pretty one and um I really enjoy the differences between men and women 😉

Anyway, are going around wondering why didn't the man choose the woman that looked manish... probably not. uhuh 😔

also can ya'll name some manga that this happens? Generally the guys don't have as much as a repoir with the main girl. I saw this happen in Legend of Neired but really the pretty guy was really crazy (though that's why i liked him)

Red River - maybe, Prince Kail is by far the prettiest guy after Yuri.
