NEWS: Student uses sword to kill intruder

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with what the sword guy did. I wouldn't stand-by and watch someone steal from me, I'd take a stand.
As in many states, it is illegal in Maryland to use deadly force to defend one's property.
Sorry to tell you but my state isn't one of them. It is perfectly acceptable to shot somebody if they pose a threat to you or your property.
Ain't we all just backwood hicks 🙄

But truth be told, I would've done the same thing that the student did. Plus, the robber just got released from jail. And then the robber's criminal history showed that he got arrested over two dozen times for burglary, breaking and entering, and auto theft. Personally, I think the robber deserved to get killed, because no one that stupid deserves to live.
He was also charged in 2007 for pulling a gun on a police officer according to AP.
Well if the sword guy does get convicted, none of us are going to be on the jury

Maybe he watched a lot of Samurai X lol.
I dont get the people who are saying that what the kid did was wrong....What the hell is wrong with that? If your in the same situation as he is, would you have time to call the police while someone is already robbing you? In most cases, by the time the police arrives in the scene, the burglar already left with some things from the owner of the house and you cant do anything about that anymore.
Someone said it's not logical to do that....hell whats more logical than that? He just wants to protect the things that his parents/ he / anyone worked for. The kid knows he got a sword to take some action. If you have a weapon that can kill, and someone is intruding your house with an intention of robbing something from you, would you just call the police or take the action yourself?
If the kid used deadly force, the burglar should be divided into different parts. 🤣
This just in.
Samurai swords are the number 3 killer of burglars behind dogs and wet floors.

I love all these people talking about not going to meet intruders and saying what healthy normal people would do in todays society.
Thats Bull#^$%. You and no one else is responsible for the safety of your life, property and well being. Police keep the peace.
This idea that you run away and hide waiting in fear for someone else to come make a decision about what is and isn't necessary to protect what s important to you, is ridiculous. That entire idea, the whole of the logic is grievously flawed.
On a legal note allow me to enlighten you:
The Florida "Castle Doctrine" law basically does three things:
One: It establishes, in law, the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into your home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, therefore a person may use any manner of force, including deadly force, against that person.
Two: It removes the "duty to retreat" if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. You no longer have to turn your back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Instead, you may stand your ground and fight back, meeting force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others. [This is an American right repeatedly recognized in Supreme Court gun cases.]
Three: It provides that persons using force authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such force.

On a side note, it annoys me how the media calls things like this a samurai sword. Its a bloody katana.
As far as whether or not its an imitation, I doubt its of this quality:

I see nothing wrong with protecting yourself, home and family. I know I'd have the same reaction, though I wouldn't try to injure to kill. I wouldn't be able to live with that on my conscience no matter the situation. I have seen a few cases where they have charged the victim despite it clearly being self-defense though.
If it weren't for the gutter, my mind would be homeless.

He haxed a hand and the guy bleed to dead, if he wanted to kill him, he would had cut some other place, like the neck, or the belly.
If the paramedics had arrived sooner the bastard would had survived, so lets thank the traffic they didn't

Heh, that's badass. The bastard deserved it. He broke into the property and should have been prepared. It's sad that the kid will most likely get something held against him. Deadly force isn't allowed unless it's that type of situation. Kind of BS in my opinion. They should make stuff like this legal. Great way to get rid of societal garbage. Seriously, what if the dude was alive, went to jail for a bit, then came back for revenge? Just wipe em out. Enemies aren't friends ;D Population control <3
You gotta be joking! Societal garbage? But oh yeah: Let's just kill everyone who has problems and maybe made one mistake. We'll do the same if you had poor luck one day, are hungry and stole some food. 🤢 >:-( >:-( >:-( Oh, and don't forget to kill the person who killed you, he's a murderer, too.
Bye Bye, humanity.Jep, I'm absolutely against death penalty.
And before one says: "He has done so many crimes, he deserves to die nevertheless", I better ask: Has he ever killed someone?
I'm sorry, What?
There's a difference between stealing food to survive a few times and being arrested multiple times for it.
He was defending his stuff, so he was fully in the right.
I don't think the guy MEANT to kill him.
But still, Self-defense =/= Murder.
You don't know if he has a weapon, you don't know if he is just there to steal a few things.
Yes, alot of people would not go down there and simply call the police, but who's to say that's the right thing to do?
Who's to say it isn't?
Society as a whole may come up with things, and think we are a bit more intelligent for it, but when they are pushed into a corner, what happens?

With a samurai sword O_o
BALTIMORE - A Johns Hopkins University student armed with a samurai sword killed an intruder in his garage, Baltimore police said Tuesday.
(...)
In the garage, the student told police he discovered a man and when the student told the man to get out, the man accosted him, Guglielmi said. The student defended himself with the sword, cutting off the man's hand and causing a severe laceration to his upper body, he said.
At least he can't use his hand to steal anymore. That was a common punishment in the past, cutting the thief's hand, you know.
He deserved it as much as a poor kid deserves Christmas presents.
