yah batoto.com is probably what most scanlator would suggest or ones without their own online reader anyway, since it doesnt re-size or watermark anyone's work and there actual links to scanlator's pages which i find pretty useful sometimes

Question: you all are against mangafox, ok, I can agree with you, but why aren't you against mangastream.com that earns each day more than mangafox?
From the same site on first post, http://www.cubestat.com/www.mangastream.com.
If you apply the rule that the site that illegally earns money from the work of a mangaka is bad, mangastream is the evil, no? confused
All I want to say is, if mangafox is the evil because it earns money illegally, shouldn't be so all other manga readers too? (the ones that earn money that way btw)
Let's open a stopmangastream website too? roll
(I yet knew the story behind mangahere and mangafox, strange it has became famous now)

EDIT: Modified the meaning, it was bad written.

Oh, wow, the amount of hate in this post.
Against SCANLATORS of all people, instead of what the actual thread is about. Which is Mangafox's hypocrisy and their multiple faces. I'm pretty much surprised at the lack of appreciation for what we do, when all you guys do are calling us names and saying that we're doing it all for notoriety, no wonder so many people have quit.
As a scanlator, I don't care if I make money. I do it for free. I even pay for my own raws to bring quality scanlations to the community, but when an online reader makes thousands of dollars off of stuff that we do for free, I get pissed, you know? If the money should go to anyone, it should go to the mangaka. But you guys are all missing the point. There are so many other ways to get your manga, go to batoto, or if they don't have it, go to the scanlator's website and download it.

Personally, I disapprove of Mangastream, but at least they're not hurting the community by taking advantage of other people's volunteer effort.

I don't know if it is the case, but if you are against mangafox, isn't it easier not to allow them to host your releases and writing in your credits that you do not approve them?
If all scanlators join in the war against mangafox, it can be won.
Why don't we start it? I think many groups would join it.

I read Nisseman's and DarkPatamon's post, it makes sense actually but oh well, here's why I hate it when online reading sites don't respect a team's policies~

1. There are team that host their site, by using non-free servers. If people visit their sites first instead of online reading sites, at least they can pay the server right? A hobby indeed costs much, but if the ads can help, why not? Example, playing guitar is your hobby, you can do a performance to get some bucks to buy new guitars, strings, etc etc, right?

2. Mangastream delete previous chapters of their releases, and they also put watermark so people won't put it in other sites too~

3. It's not like I'm that jealous for all that money that NOEZ group got (urm... I'm a bit jealous though biggrin ) but what makes me angry is, that the publishers, and mangakas, often blame the scanlation groups for making all money. But, actually Online Reading Sites are the one who make a lot more money

4. It's not like I totally hate an online reading site, I knew about scanlation because of them (onemanga.com) and now I have my own team because of it. BUT, to claim a job that other person did? Oh god, that's bad, really bad. We want some 'thanks bro' too, translating for free and for fans, why can't we get some thanks?

5. Okay, sometimes scanlation teams bitching about this and that, and then add watermark. For watermark, I also don't agree, it SUCKS and annoying, remember Mangacurse incident? Except for sites like Mangastream, who put it so people won't put it to other sites (because they'll delete it). But for bitching? C'MON LADIES, THIS IS A HOBBY, FOR FANS TO FANS, SO WHAT IF WE'RE BITCHING ABOUT OUR HOBBY? We can just /ragequit anytime, who cares? Not us of course.

Well, that's all for now.. My fingers are tired.... I need to typeset some more scanlations for the fans after all wink

@Kuro vi Lolitannia: Are you the famous Lolitannia from the same group? If yes, I never thanked you and your group for the mangas you scanlate, so, here it is.
Thanks you for bowling king, kanokon and Mahou no Iroha! (even though it is a join, I should thank the other group too), great works, great releases and, what are you typesetting now? biggrin )

@no_comxxx: With all bad ads on tazmo, the war against him/her was won, why can't be the same with mangafox?

Some groups already do that. Mangafox ignores them. Mangafox will not honor any request that impacts their revenue, pure and simple. The most they do is honor certain delay periods, but then they'll make up for it on Mangahere apparently.

The only viable alternative that I see right now is to build up Batoto. So all groups that don't have their own online readers: upload your releases to Batoto and link to them as "Read Online". And then encourage your leechers who use online readers to make Batoto their first stop. Donate your proceeds to a good cause.

It's just matter of time. that scanlators will move their stuff into batoto or set up their private online mangareader. that will make your life easier...

I have an idea, I don't if it stupid or not, but: what if batoto, with the surplus from earnings (when they will start to earn as mangafox), starts to give as a present copies of mangas?
I suggest something like a lottery.
Many users would join batoto in no time.

Well, DarkPatamon, with the current situation given in (like this thread) pretty sure it will make their site popular.

Damn, I had no idea mangahere was actually mangafox. Definitely opens my eyes.

However, as Jigero said, trying to prevent mangafox/mangahere or any other online reader to actually upload your releases is completely pointless. It won't work and you'll only annoy your fans.

Tried it before by only releasing on our reader then implementing all sorts of crazy anti-ripping methods to stop them from actually stealing the release (I'm a programmer) and nope, never worked. Some online readers couldn't break it but many did and then in the end, it only hurts your readers.

So it's better to simply grow a thick skin and just stop caring about online readers in general. They're there and they're not going away. Don't let them affect your work.

Yeah, but till then accept the fact. People are lazy. And as long as google shows mangafox.com in its top 10 search results for mangareader sites, they are going to visit it. Often many of the people who read manga online are often uninformed of the efforts involved behind the whole scanlation process (I personally know a few). Unless they are informed of this, NOEZ is going to profit. We have to do something about that too.
