nice job. looks like a real AT.

about the homemade new engine, it's on hold right now. one of our crew burnt their hand. that's what you get when making an engine without a schematics.

engines- i just pick this up fro yahoo answers-

" I would recomend a ten horse or better briggs engine with a belt driven torque converter, or a three speed trans if you can find one."

batteries- what would you think about lithium-polymer battery?

i know there's someone out there that could understand this better than i could.

So, should we drop the friction engine that me and Vinceasuma thought about, imo i think thats the way to go, its not as comfortable, but your body will get more training and you wont need extra weights like battery-bags or so. take the pic which vinceasuma made and use it like a typ of schematic so we later on can try to focus on suspension and that kind of friction engine, do u guys remember those small toycars i had some when i was a little kid, when u drag them forward a typ of friction starts within the car that makes the wheels go forward and the more u drag it forwardly the more friction the wheels get, and then we u let go of the car it goes crazy and has a pretty good speed and when hitting walls it tries to climb it but the tumbles over, well i hope u catch my idea here, if we have a bigger of those engines in the AT's and then we start with normal skating but since the more we skate the more friction the wheels get then when we stop skating they will have so much friction in them that they practically drag us around for a while. And if we also could make the engine be adjustable we could customize it for the "stormrider" 😀 if he wants to go fast he just makes the friction harder tho the bad thing by doing that..it will make u slower in the start but when u get the speed up it becomes easier to skate, and if the "stormrider" wants to go slower but with more accelaration then he just trim down the friction but then he wont go as fast when hes running at full speed since the engine wont help that much, and so what everyone is searching with these engines is to find the balance between speed and accelaration.

Hope this helps u guys out.

i'm not turning the friction engine idea down. i just putting more and more ideas here. we need to consider every posibility there is.

i'm in really bad mood now. my bike broke down because i rode it too fast and jammed the engine. is that gonna happen when i am able to ride AT. reach it's limit and broke it? 😢

vince. evil one. try looking at these
http://www.airgeartv.com/

look at the video clip of air gear schematic. can you guys catch anything from the view? i see possibilities.
this is the closest schematic we could ever get(for the time being). you guys gotta look carefully while it's still buffering, coz it'll be slow enough for us to see how the design is.

That animation is going to help me x1mil! I have all these episodes too and I completely forgot that was there. Awesome! Thanks for dat link!!!!

Also, while lighting is working on the combustion engine for this, I will continue to make the friction engine. We call this dual path - take 2 routes to the same goal. Like Naruto making clones to train quickly. This is really starting to come together I think.

I had always thought that rollerblades were very gay. But now I think I will buy a pair and practice this agressive style of skating. Only this will help me to understand AT and be able to make one.

ah hello guys, just read literally the whole thread lol. quite interesting to see people who want something similar to AT's built. i quickly joined because i felt i might be able to offer a little help every so often on a couple things. well i'm not too much of a tech wiz, so i wouldnt necessarily be able to offer any help on the actual building part (gotta do research), but instead of the sleek looking AT look for the item, why not add a little girth to it? see the idea i had was to kind of expand the sides of the boot or w/e, add like an extra inch or two and put some of the parts in you may need for extra space for the rest of the building process. the best visual examples i can give at the moment would be of some gundam's feet. take a look:
http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/uc/zeta/mechanics/ms_zeta.html
http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/uc/zeta/mechanics/ms_baunddoc.html
if you notice how they have that covering over their "ankles" you can best understand what i'm saying. If someone was to do that on a boot, and attach an extended compartment on the sides and back of the boot to place some of the necessary parts in, you'd have more room to put all the power supply stuffz. also do not forget that in the schematics of the actual AT from that vid (thx lightning) you can see that there is atleast an inch or two under the actual boot and atop the wheels where there is also some storage room for parts.
it wouldnt look like a normal sleek looking AT, but it would be more practical with the extra space.
i'm getting more idea's, i'll keep posting, they're flowing right now.

Achilles, thanks for the advice and welcome to the site. You are more than welcome to share in the discussion and any info you add will be appreciated and carefully considered.

I will take another look at the width of my model and see if I can apply your suggestion if it makes sense.

BTW are you the videogame guy Achilles that also damaged achilles during Tae Kwon Do? (no one will understand this unless you are the Achilles I am thinking of...)

Ah, thanks for the welcoming 😀 and I will continue to add ideas when they do appear.
Ah yes plz do, and tell me if you could possibly see them being altered as such. If the modifications can be incorporated into the possible designs, I have another mod to further expand the use of the extra space.
Most likely not, I began using the name three years ago on a game called Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I was a red and black belt in Tang Soo Do, a South Korean alternative of Tae Kwon Do, and I take it you mean the other Achilles tore his tendon?

Correct. I had a friend named Achilles who helped me to build arcade sticks. He was a video game tester with me back in the day. Really cool guy. He was a blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and he got his name by tearing both achilles tendons simultaneously in a competition.

Still - welcome anyways and we appreciate the support.

Youch, sounds painful XD poor guy.
Well let me know if any changes can be made as i still have more design alterations if you say it makes sense or not.

Wow Lightning that vid sure did a thing or two for my brain, good job reminding me about that thing in the first episode. So i would like to know if anyone of u guys has a kind of schemantic "drawer" which u use on your computer, cause i got some idea's and i will also take up on the project of fixing the actual suspension, and i had another little idea of the suspension, if we use the simple Kizer suspension frame as an idea and remake it with bigger wheel space and lesser "grinding" space, that will give us a couple of more inches for the engine, also since the fram then will be a suspension for the whole boot i thought about getting a air supplied suspension for the wheel aswell, so u get 2 kinds of suspensions which will let u get even more comfortable landings, the "customide" Kizer frame is pretty hard but it repels alittle of the shock from landing, so if we make such a jump that the frame gets to it limit then the wheel suspension will kick in the let the wheels retract a little more into the frame which gives us even more suspension. how does that sound, im not sure tho what kind of small suspension we can attach to the wheels, but if i can get some sort of schematic program to my pc ill gladly take this side of the project on my shoulders, so we can get really comfortable landings after big airs.

Also im glad for u Vinceasuma that u found out about Aggressive style, its very fun, i've been riding that kind of style for a couple of years, then when i saw Air Gear it really went of in my head, so GO for it. <3
ill keep in touch with guys all the time i can!

Before building motors, how about calculating what power the motor should theoretically have? Companies don't build car motors till they get it right, as it can be costly and a waste of time. Planning is key.

Secondly, I don't see the reasoning of using a "friction motor". The wheels need to wind in the opposite direction that you want to travel. Also, the motor will ultimately end up not giving benefit. Instead of skating 10 m using 10 "points" of power, you'll use 10 "points" on the first 5 m and then 0 "points" on the next 5 m. Ultimately, you are not gaining an advantage, which defies the purpose of a motorized skate.

Finally, why do you need such great suspension. Do you plan on jumping off buildings? If not, normal skate frames will be sufficient.

And to reiterate, PLAN your design before you start building. Don't just start throwing parts together till they work. Doing this can be costly, dangerous, and will likely result in an unoptimized result. Calculate costs and see if you can afford to actually produce this. If you want to go 15 mph, make sure you use a motor that will move 15 mph with your weight. Get your engineer dad / engineer friend to help.

Well Jay, it seems you didnt understand the friction engine theory, u dont go the opposite way to gain the speed to travel forward, but u start staking forward and the wheels will start the friciton then, its sort of hard to explain but if u just find a toycar that is driven by this type of engine u will understand, and "yes" and "no" i will jump off buildings, the idea with alot suspension is to at least land from a little higher ground then normal onto flat ground without hurting your knees.

And Ofc we plan before building, its a pretty stupid question imo, but im not going to flame u for that ^^
And i will talk to a engineer, and i worked late into the night yesterday and made the first design of the Suspension frame, so that part is pretty much done tbh. going to carve it down today and put it on my Aggressive In-line and see how much it does improve, and money is not the problem 😉 but the technology.

Im also making a 3d design schematic, so i will record it with fraps and then post up the video and ill slowly show u how the 3d schematic looks and then i want opinions! 😀

edit BTW here is my teams current emblem, thought it could be funny to post it up for u guys! <3

well, i got nothing to post right now coz i'm still pretty banged up after the accident. but for all you guys, thanks. you just gave me hope. nice emblem btw.

about the friction engine, do you mean like a heavy gear on a bicycle? ya know, like it's heavy at the beginning but as we gain more speed, it's getting lighter?

good luck with the suspension frame. it's crucial coz we'll be fitting mechanical and possibly electronical parts in it, we need to make sure the shock from the fall doesn't mess up with the parts right?

just a suggestion, let's not make AT go for more than 70 km per hour. i go for 140 km and look how do i ended up. lol 🤣

da**. i got all this schematic in my head but i stink at drawings. i need the schematic drawer for pc or something. any idea what's it called?

post again and again

you'll need about 5hp for 60km/h so that's the objective

and what do you mean for a friction engine? can you link me something on the subject?

edit

i re-read your topics and i think i found what you mean for frictione engine kuoru

the main reason is because it works thanks to inertia. inertia is the tendency of an object of a certain mass to keep his state of quite or motion, if not subject to other forces like friction or air drag. now, if you want to keep a little car running, where the friction engine is about 50-60% of the total mass, you can do it, but i don't think that you can store enough inertia in a couple skate to reach 5hp. plus the energy storaging is tiring.

You got the point lightning.

about the friction engine, do you mean like a heavy gear on a bicycle? ya know, like it's heavy at the beginning but as we gain more speed, it's getting lighter?

To bad it may not work as dancwart said 🙁 though i will meet up with an engineer soon and ask him a couple of questions about stuff that may work and may not work.
But im not going to give up before we have the AT's made and being fuctional, and i do agree with you lightning it doesnt have to go as fast as a car, but as long as we can outrun a normal couple of inlines and maybe a bicycle im satisfied, since i can almost do it now with my simple aggressive skates.

Well back to the thinking and such, we'll keep in touch and ill come back to u with a report about the meeting with the engineer.
