One thing I'm noticing...most are listing mangas that have female leads. No shojos that have male leads.

Do readers just find them annoying? I know I do, I go out of my way to make sure all my shojos have male leads and no romance. I go out of my way on this stuff, females in manga annoy me so.

Shoujo I liked at first but grew bored of:
Skip Beat- It's too long. Loved the anime, in spite of it's awkward ending.
Ouran High School Host Club- Same situation as Skip Beat... and I realized my distaste for reverse harem thanks to this.
Fruits Basket- Oh man, I remember how in 4th grade I'd watch the anime episodes before I walked to school in the mornings. Tried the manga, but the drawing style annoyed me and I grew tired of the main character.
Dengeki Daisy- I've only seen one other person post this so I'm guessing the rest of y'all are fans (or haven't tried it)... don't attack me! I dislike the whole rescue running gag and the main characters lost my interest. I wish the girl would end up with the glasses kid (forgot his name) but I won't be reading the rest of the manga, so if by any minuscule chance she does, I won't be finding out.
Yumemiru Taiyou- Tche, landlord.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-Kun- Too many side romances.
Akagami no Shirayuki Hime- Boring. I remember it being kinda repetitive too...
Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!- Waaay too repetitive.

Shoujo I despised:
Vampire Knight- I liked Meru Puri, so I decided to try this out, and it was decent at first. Then it became hella confusing the the main character went all Mary Sue.
Black Bird- I liked the first chapter, I think. The main dude is too manipulative and the main girl needs to learn how to fight. Being nosy + weak is not a good combination.
Shugo Chara!- Just... no.
Hot Gimmick- Pretty sure this is just popular for being horrible. And it deserves that status.
Anything by HMR, HYR, Shinjo Mayu-whatever.
Most smut.

Well, yeah. That and most shoujo readers are females themselves thus can easily spot BS in a story with female leads. It's rare to find a shoujo with a male lead so it's more refreshing and less annoying.

So many things have been done that nearly everything can be cliched at times, so depending on how it's dished out I'm more than willing to give even the most typical sounding story a shot. That's why I sort of like most of the "popular" manga some found annoying. The majority have their redeeming qualities but I admit even I can just plain dislike something despite being able to point out the good in it.

Faster than a kiss and Kaichou wa maid-sama: They were good when in the beginning but my tastes got in the way. I still find them cute, but I'll never finish reading them being of the overly blushy female heroine and the unrealistic perfect males. Never got into Special A either now that I think about it.

I like some stuff by Hwang Mi Ri, but only the stuff that's in my completed lists. Never really got into Han Yu Rang but I never got into the art although the two are slightly similiar.

Dengeki Daisy: It was good but I just lost interest and nothing that happened could pull me back.

Watashi ni xx Shinasai!: Again loved it at first, but the whole love triangle thing plus the heroine was a turn off.

The only stuff I dislike are things I had high expectations for and never followed through. It's a shame to see that such popular manga fall into that category, but it's to be expected when someone's writing a long running series and needs the dough. 😛 Squeeze it to the last drop.

Oh, so it just wasn't me when I thought lead males in shojo were rare. That would also explain why Viz doesn't have many of them. But...ok, even if a female is writing a shojo, the female lead can still be awful? That seems a bit strange.

Ah, I knew I explained that horribly.

It's pretty much that mangaka don't understand/know that a lot, from other countries, detest the cute attribute in a lot of shoujo manga. It doesn't seem that the majority aim for originality either and possibly aren't critiqued as harshly in their native country. Note that it's just an observation and not necessarily true.

Many here have already been through a great deal of manga but to others it's a novelty and they aren't knowledgeable in the overdoing of cliches. To those that do it's a rehash of mediocrity.

  • Kaichou Wa Maid-sama! (Misaki's tsundere traits annoy the hell out of me.)
  • Black Bird
  • Strobe Edge
  • Yumemiru Taiyou
  • Hot Gimmick (It would have been good if the female lead isn't a complete doormat)
  • Stardust Wink (I can't stand the heroine)
  • Vampire Knight (eventually got boring...)
  • Kyou, Koi Wo Hajimemasu (and anything by this author)
  • Sukitte Ii Na Yo (Romance is too quick and most of the characters are like sex-addicts. I find this manga really shallow and unrealistic.)
  • Ao Haru Ride
  • Kamisama Hajimeshita
  • Kimi Ni Todoke (the main couple is too awkward that the fun is melting away)
  • Chihayafuru
  • Fruits Basket (I can't stand Tohru. She's a nice and optimistic girl but she's too boring and passive.)
  • Shugo Chara!
  • Ouran High School Host Club (The anime was so good but the manga is so blah-ish. Maybe it's because I wasn't that attached to the characters at all.)
  • Parfait Tic
  • La Corda D'Oro
  • Nana
  • Shinshi Doumei Cross
  • Bokura Ga Ita
  • Itazura Na Kiss
  • Mars
  • Hana to Akuma
  • Love Monster
  • Kare Kano
  • Anything by Ikeyamada Go
  • Anything by Shinjo Mayu

I am quite picky... gah.

Dengeki Daisy (I like this authors other works, just not this one)
Reimei No Arcana
Kimi Ja Nakya Dame Nanda

and more but i'm too lazy to look at the second page of top shoujo's 😐

I want to add this one to as well as Mars, I don't think I like this type of mangas (yet, depends on my mood). I really want to add at least 50+ more, but I shall restrain...

And oh, is Calamansi a little lime/lemon fruit (size of a err, gumball)? Are by chance filipino 😀 . Sorry if I'm wrong.

Nope, but I was introduced to the fruit by a Filipino friend. 😉
And now that I think about it, the number of manga I've dropped due to lack of interest is pretty depressing. xD There's so many more I can add to the list, like Faster than a Kiss, Perfect Girl Evolution, Karakuri Odette, Reimei no Arcana...
