New poll about how your parents feel about anime/manga!
For me, my mom watches anime on her spare time (but never reads manga...)
As for my dad, he barely watches TV, let alone anime/manga. For him, it's all about the real books with no pictures
Question: My parents...
Choices:
Are a bigger Otaku than I am! - votes: 58 (0.6%)
Also read manga. We talk and share the stuff~ - votes: 214 (2.2%)
Don't know I read manga at all. Shhh, it's a secret hobby - votes: 1045 (10.6%)
Know I read manga, but it's not something we talk about... - votes: 4771 (48.4%)
Know I read manga and are repulsed by it and trying to convince me to stop - votes: 893 (9.1%)
Doesn't know what manga is even though I tried to explain it a million times - votes: 1211 (12.3%)
Thinks all manga is for children - votes: 1657 (16.8%)
There were 9849 total votes.
The poll ended: August 2nd 2008

None of those fit me at all. My mom knows about manga but just isn't really interested, and is mildly interested in anime (has watched a few series) but just doesn't watch tv much.
Now if my kids were the ones taking the poll, they'd definitely choose that "more otaku than I am" option. 🤣

I can't answer the poll. None of the options fit me. My parents know I read it and don't care in the slightest that I do. They don't really read manga or watch anime (aside from Hayao Miyazaki films and stuff like that) but It's not really something we avoid talking about either.

My mom knows I read manga, though we bring it up in a discussion very rarely. I don't think my dad is aware that I read manga though I think he won't really care if I do. The only thing anime related that my parents watch are movies like Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle.

I guess the closest option for me, is the "don't know i read manga at all. Shhh, it's a secret hobby." ^^ I try not to let them know or see me reading manga/watching anime, though I have a strong feeling that they already know. If they did know though, they would think all manga/anime is for children and whatnot -_-

"Know I read manga, but it's not something we talk about... "
That was the closest for me. My Dad and I have shared some moments on anime (major examples: Princess Mononoke and FLCL). My Dad pretty much treats like any other media, if it's really good (his opinion) he'll read/watch it.

I went with the 'Don't know I read manga at all' option because that fits, although once my mom saw me and asked what I was looking at and I said 'Comics', but that dropped the subject. XD

my mom thinks it's for kids and my dad reads it, although all of his are in korean and our preferences are different, and they know i read manga, but it's not something we talk about. so a mix of a few.
I tried to get my mum to read manga. I tried Mahou Sensei Negima! first, but that fell through. I managed to get her to read up to chapter 11 of My Balls! and she has the other chapters, but she's too into her gay novels to read manga. I don't feel like searching for yaoi for her to read.
My dad just has no interest at all.
Lose - Opposite of win, to misplace something/someone. e.g. To lose your way, to lose a fight.
Loose - Opposite of tight. e.g. To have a loose screw, to loosen a jar lid.

Idk if it's just me, but if I were to introduce a manga to my parents it wouldn't be a shounen harem manga bordering on pedophilia 🤢 . No need for formalities for my parents (ie shounen and shoujo stuff), I'd just introduce seinen and josei manga, since that's what they'd be into anyway. I voted for the "they tried to convince me to stop" option, but it's more like a "they've given up all hope of trying to get me to stop reading manga as long as my grades stay up" kind of situation.

They know, but at the times my mom hates it cause I bring back home not the 90s she's expecting. ^_^; And blames it on "that stupid manga". ;D Which is true, that's all I do online anymore. XD

My parents read manga when they were my age, but don't anymore. They very well know that I do it but don't mind and don't talk about it.

If I say the word, "manga" to my mum,
she says, "Huh.... one mango, two manga??"....
Yup!... she thinks manga is some newfangled word pertaining to more than one mango. 🤣
I'm serious.... I just called her on the phone to find out!!

They know I read/watch it. Mom doesn't get why my brother and I like it. We got our dad to watch tri-gun. Most part they act indifferent. Though they certainly don't like the yaoi manga, they don't say anything about it. My brother is the one that throws the fit about that, since both his girlfriend and his sister are yaoi fangirls and he can't escape the stuff even though he tries... 😉
