Anyone who signs up with a less than appropriate age will automatically have series/18+ board hidden as default. While i don't really mind having 14 year olds and such making and viewing posts in the forums, it is a little weird and if it's going to be a board for 18+'s, may as well enforce it as a rule.

Just because a movie's rated R doesn't mean that I have to be a certain age to see it, 18+ just means that it is recommended that you are at least 18 because of some of the topics mentioned in the threads.

Agreed. I would like the 18+ thread to have more mature discussions, not for the 13-year olds spamming things like "w000t boobs!!"

But while I would love this idea in paper, I think people will just change their birthdates to make themselves 18.

I've always thought it was kinda weird the 18+ boards weren't locked or hidden to the underage members. But since I think in this case it's more a matter of people being able to avoid things they don't feel comfortable with than to adhere to laws (we're not littering the 18+ section with porn pics and terrible gore, after all), I don't think I really care.

Pfft, I'm 16 and have seen everything already, besides mutilation/death and the like. But all the rest is old news. xD Yeah, the internet is a double-edged blade. ._.

Why not just ban the 14/15-year olds from those threads? :3

That's unfair. True, its a good idea, but I feel abused. I mean, just because you're under 18 doesn't really mean you're not mature enough to view those threads.

Really, age isn't a measure of maturity.

The idea is good and I support it 100%, but there is problem with age. As Razril said, people will just change their birth dates.

Right, there are a lot of factors, I mean in my town there is a guy of 21 (still sane) and he climbs trees with 10, 11 year old kids, dont you think I myself with 16 years, am more mature than that guy?

Anyway, those are more "exceptions from the norm" than the norm itself. While I agree that age cannot measure a person's maturity with 100% accuracy, it does serve as a reliable guide most of the time.

Then again, I don't see this suggestion being implemented because it's easy to change your age online. XD Anyway I'm just throwing an opinion for the sake of it.

Yes people can change their ages, but only if they're aware that it'll let them access the more adult part of the forum. If it's not made explicit, then I doubt many newbies would realise. Checks can be made on those who already have an age in place. Say if someone is 14, then next week 18, it's more than likely a typo.

No-one's talking trees here. 🙂 And besides missing out on a few threads, it won't detract much from the general purpose/functionality of this site. It'll probably give the admins and mods less trouble should someone get into trouble viewing materials (by accident/purpose) when they shouldn't be.

Is it really censorship though? Posts/series are still there, just not accessible to everyone.
