Playstation 3 price cut

Well Sony has released news that they will be having a price cut on the playstion 3.
A 120 gb playstation 3 slim will be released September 1 and will be sold for $299. Effective immediatley all current playstation 3 consoles (60 & 120 GB) will have a US $100 price cut and once those models sell out they will be discontinued.
Now Sony is doing this because their sales have been decreasing and they have fallen behind Wii and Xbox 360 in sales. They've lost many playstation fans to Xbox 360 because of their high price.
Now some people say that its too late, the price cut won't make a difference and will continue to be behind the Wii and Xbox 360. I think that it will make quite a difference and their sales will out do Xbox 360 and maybe Wii. I personally have been waiting on a price drop to get the playstation, I must admit that I almost bought a Xbox 360 because of its lower price but thank God I didn't 😀
So what do you think, will the price cut make a difference or is it too little too late
No one gives a shit what trite garbage you write here.
Only complaint I've heard about the PS3 was the price and lack of games so this should have an impact.

I've owned a Wii and 360 for a while now.. I've always intended on getting a PS3 but I wasn't going to spend all that money on a system that costed a shitload and only had 2 games I actually wanted to play(Killzone 2 and Infamous). But with this price cut and good games(presumably) like Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 coming out, I'll definately get one.. Oh and I don't have a blue ray player atm either so that's a plus.
A price cut for the PS3 right before the Christmas season should impact sales significantly. Of course trying to catch up to the Wii or the DS in sales is ludicrous.. It has a much better chance with the 360. But with Halo ODST coming out and Halo Reach coming out in about a year(supposedly), I'm sure it will still do more than fine.
I believe so.
I have a PS3, but as they cut
prices, they give you shittier hardware.
I'd rather have my backwards compatibility
back instead of a bigger HD that costs
like batshit insanely much and which one can get
from the local IT store anyway for 1/5 the price.
Hopefully it will encourage game developers
to create stuff for PS3, since it is daft to make
games for a console that nobody (except me)
can afford to buy.

The price cut should bump up sales but I doubt it'll catch the 360 in the US. While price is a factor, the bigger problem for me is the lack of quality games. I could always justify the price since the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player.

I have a ps3 and never thought that the ps3 was expensive, and i'd prefer to pay a litle more and be able to play my ps2 games and run linux on it than have a slightly cheaper console that don't do any of those

I haven't verified this, but my husband also saw/heard that the PS3 games created from now on will not be backwards compatible with the PS2. That's part of how they can justify the price cut from here forward.

Wait, what?
Does PS2 run PS3 games?
As for the backwards compatible of PS3,
the latest models haven't ran PS2 games
for a while.

Meant consoles instead of games it seems 🙂
I don't mind them not being compatible.. I have 2 PS2's I can use if I really want to...

I refuse to buy a PS3 unless it is backward compatible, no matter the price. I don't see the reason as to why they stopped, but no doubt it had an impact on sales, since I'm sure that I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Anyway, I think the only way that the sales would increase tremendously, is if uninformed parents buy them for their children for the holdiays.

Maybe I said it backwards - PS2 games won't run on PS3? That would make more sense. I think part of the cost-reduction is that they're not including the hardware which will also read the old PS2 format.

I heard that Sony announced the PS3 Slim was going to be backwards compatible, however they are denying it now the same way they were denying that there was no PS3 Slim a few months back....time will tell I guess. Though I don't really need it, I've still got my old PS2 alive and in good shape after 7-8 years.

Well, I kinda hope it's backwards compatible, cause my PS2 has been making a grinding sound lately...

All current reports indicate that it's not backwards compatible, and no future systems by Sony will be PS2 compatible
