Speaking as a US female who doesn't read yaoi - I don't reject it for religious or moral reasons, it's just not something I care to read. Same with a lot of shounen manga - I don't "object" to it, I'm just not interested in reading it. (^_^)
Judging by the amount of shounen-ai/BL/yaoi on the local book store's shelves, I don't think there's too big of an objection to it (or maybe those who would be outraged by it just haven't figured out it's there yet...?).

i personally like the 'fluff' yaoi or shonen-ai....
and it is kinda sad that a yaoi crze is pretty much falling over the anime/manga community right now...

I have the feeling about 30% of all posts somehow end up as yaoi discussions.
And Ares6 always seems to be in the thick of the discussion.Personally. i don't read yaoi, but don't care much. I wonder if many US poeple reject yaoi for religious reasons. There seem to be many anti homosexual tendencies in the US
It's fun to discuss controversial issues like Homosexuality. But you have to admit if the girls here aren't the ones reading yaoi, then it must be the guys.

Or just another guess:
Stats
Our users have made 460 topics and 5135 posts. We have 16734 registered users.
Even if we consider that every registered member posted only 1 post... they'd still be arround 10000 users that never posted...
So what does those 10000 members reads? Probably everything (of course not individually but as a whole)

Girls are also more likely to enjoy genres like shoujo, yaoi, yuri and shounen manga like bleach or Till death do us part (Great manga by the way) where as I'm not sure a straight guy would delve into yaoi or admit to reading shoujo.
That's alot of assumptions you are making. The number of girls who read Yuri are very small. There are a large number of Yaoi readers who hate Yuri and will never try Yuri. Some of them even said very negatively comments about Yuri.
You said Girls are also likely to enjoy Shounen such as bleach or Till death do us part. Well then isn't that the same for guys? Isn't a large number of people would enjoy reading Bleach or Till death do us part regardless if they are female or male or alien. What's that have to do with anything.
If you mean girls read more varieties of mangas than some guys. That may be true. A girl would say she read Shounen, but not alot of guys will admit they read Shoujo. At least not in a forum where the majority is male, and most of them think Shoujo sucks.

You know Akillarian, I think you and roniz said pretty much the exact same thing.
I can imagine a lot of mothers and fathers being deeply disturbed if they find there 14 year old daughter reading Yaoi, that might really be funny 🙂

you won't be able to get away from stereotypes anywhere, or anytime. Best to lern to love them.

Of course aliens read ( and write ) manga. Where do you think all those Mecha and Tenticals came from?

I'm a guy, and I do read some shoujo. Feel any better now?
Althought, they only come to 10% or less maybe of the total volume of what I read.
(The rest beeing split evenly between seinen, shonen and comedy)
But I did read some shoujo nonetheless and enjoyed some of them a lot (and hated others).

I am a manly man ( with beard ) who would never ever read Shoujo or admit he did.
I grunt a bit and belch to make a point.
I read parfait tic for a while and the first 7 volumes or so of NaNa. I also saw His and her circumstance, so i am not really 100% shoujo free. Strongly dislike shoujo art though.

LOL! but I do agree about the art part... there is something teribly disturbing about reading a manga where the guys are actually more feminine and attractive then the girls... (from a guys point of view...)
EDIT: And ares6... that's the only filter I use...

-Shocked- So you don't filter out yuri, Shotacon, Hentai, and Lolicon??
Enough with the stereotypes. They are most inaccurate and lame. I'm so sick of them. Every TV show has to have some lame stereotype about people.
Anyone read Princess Princess? Seems to me they are actually promoting homosexuality and cross dressing in single sex schools..........That is one creepy manga.....
