In honor of the latest widespread natural disaster, I decide to come up with this poll. If you really have no clue what we're talking about, please go read the news in your favorite newspaper, website, blog, etc.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: How much Japanese (or other original language) do you like in scanlations / bought manga?
Choices:
None. The whole thing must be localized to my own culture - votes: 329 (2.5%)
Just the sound effects - votes: 403 (3%)
Occasional words (e.g., bento, sakura) - votes: 1379 (10.3%)
Stuff that doesn't translate well (e.g., honorifics, culture, names) - votes: 8010 (59.7%)
As much as possible while still being readable to you - votes: 3043 (22.7%)
Completely Japanese - votes: 246 (1.8%)
There were 13410 total votes.
The poll ended: March 12th 2011

Looks like most people lean toward the side of leaving manga in its original form. I support that too.

Side-eyeing the hell out of fifth option and how many votes it has so far... <_<

Some friends and family are in Japan but they're all okay since the areas they were in weren't that deeply affected. My mother is continuing to update me on what's going on there whenever she can.

Kind of not surprised, given how people responded to the quake in the (now locked) thread >_>
It's still disturbing to see that a quarter of us seem to prioritize our personal entertainment over the well-being of others.

My husband has a friend that lives out there and he's okay so that's a relief. Otherwise I'm glued to the BBC feed tracking the after shocks and nuclear reactor situation.

I'm not surprised at how many people are clicking the manga releases option. Some of them are probably just 'hehe this will get a rise out of people' and some of them genuinely only care about their manga releases. The same people who are probably the first ones to say. 'Sure X has carpel tunnel or is in the hospital, but when is their manga going to come out?' A+ on basic human compassion guys.

I don't want to share the earth with some of you selfish people but i'm not surprised. People think about themselves, and if something happens to them they want others to think about them too.

I'm not surprised considering how the thread went, but nearly a quarter of people voting for THAT option?...

Fine, if people don't sympathise with strangers - a shame, but oh well. What's more disconcerting is the way some of us are prioritising certain matters over human life.

I wanted exactly that type of response. Because while I BITCH about it, I'm still gonna be there on ground zero helping to fix it.

What are you gonna do? Sit on your ass and complain about how terrible people are about not being super sad over something that probably doesn't have any effect on them? Well sorry for being human, and not being a saint like you.

I'm not sure that option should have been included. I mean what was the purpose, to show that about 25% of the people are lower than pond scum? This is a terrible disaster with thousands of missing people, after shocks of the quake still occurring, another tsunami is not out of the question and the Japanese are struggling to keep several nuclear reactors from failing. This will be a tragedy for many families and I think the emphasis should be kept on sympathizing with those people.
