So when do you usually start reading your manga? Would you try out a new series right away? Maybe wait for a few reviews to pop in? Try it after like 5 chapters are out? Wait for a whole volume or two? Maybe when you think it's almost over? Etc...
Question: When do you usually initially start reading a manga series?
Choices:
Right when the first chapter is out - votes: 2845 (27.7%)
When a few chapters are out - votes: 3109 (30.3%)
When a couple of volumes are out - votes: 1826 (17.8%)
When most of the series seems to be out - votes: 1113 (10.8%)

The poll ended: March 27th 2010

When I can get the chapter, usually when the first chapter is out or when I get to know it's being scanlated or something. I don't really care if it's complete or ongoing.

I'll try to start reading as soon as possible. So, if there's only one chapter out, then I'll read that one chapter. As long as the art looks good, or the story sounds interesting.

After a few chapters are out~
I can get the grasp of the series without wasting that one second clicking to put it on my reading list with only one chapter and then dropping it later because I don't like it. 😛

I usually wait until a few volumes are out, because if it's really got to start with - I hate waiting to see how it turns out!

I normally wait for at least 1 volume to be out before I even think about reading it; so, the usual is probably 2 or 3 volumes to actually start one. Very rarely will I begin a series with only a single chapter out.

Well, it depends.
I usually start it right away if it catches my interest.
I also seldom wait until the series is completed.
Unless it's a completed (in the country of origin) one-volume yaoi or something such.

Usually I only start reading when the whole thing is available...I'm reading WAY too many ongoing manga already, including a bunch that are on hiatus or dropped partway through.
I feel bad that I'm not encouraging the scanlators by reading their projects - which may later become my favorites for all I know - but I just have too many already started to want to start new ones with no guarantee of being able to finish them. 😔
Rarely, if something really catches my attention or if I just don't feel like reading any of the others, I'll start a new one once it has a few chapters or volumes out, but it doesn't happen often.

First chapter so I can discuss with people who are at the same pace with me.
But it's nice reading it when the whole thing is complete though.

I usually start reading a series right after when the first chapters are out and sometimes, when the a couple of the first volumes of the manga are out.
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛

I wait till the series is completed before I start reading them. I really don't like waiting for new chapters to come out. And sometimes group stops scanalating the series and you pray that some other group pick's it up, otherwise, tough shit.
There are exceptions, of course. Naruto was first series I started reading and somehow I began with Girlfriends (I like yuri, that's why 😀 ). These two are the only ongoing series i currently read.
I read whatever is avaliable?
I've never started to read a manga from the very beginning, as in only one chapter scanned with the rest to come, except for one which is Void. It doesn't bother me much how many chapters have been scanned. If there is one chapter out, I'll read one chapter, if there is one volume out, I'll read that one volume and so forth.
I have no preference. I just read whats given if I'm interested.

Actually, I don't care about it. Sometimes, I read a manga that jut came out straight away. Other times, I prefer ones that has been scanlated for 80 or so chapters.
If the poll have "irregular" choice, I'll pick it. But most of the time I read ones that had been scanlated for a few tens of chapters, so I'm choosing "When a couple of volumes are out".

When the first chapter is out.
Unless I put it on my wishlist. When I put it on my wishlist, I wait for a few volumes to be out first.
