I still consider Naruto to be one of the top mangas out there. It has a very interesting premise for story: the concept of a ninja world is pretty unique, mixed in the tailed beasts. Everyone's powers are all unique with the different clans and their respective bloodline powers. You can definitely tell the author gave a lot of thought to building the ninja world.

However, the pacing of the story is super slow. When is Naruto ever going to become hokage confused For chapters on end Naruto only had one ultimate move: his rasengan, before moving onto becoming a sage, then his ultimate move is still...rasengan but in sage mode. Not to mention, I'm super sick and tired of Sasuke. He's probably the most emo manga character out there and Naruto's brotherly love with him is pretty pathetic. I think the author made him turn evil just for the sake of having a rival for Naruto, but his reasons for turning against the Leaf just doesn't make any sense at all. Same with Madara's reason for turning evil. Some stuff in this manga just don't make any sense. Anyway, I dropped Naruto in the middle of the ninja war b/c it got draggy and boring, but I might pick it up again as the latest chapters are getting more and more intense.

All in all, a very solid manga and I highly recommend it.

I've not read the manga, but I started watching the anime. I'm up to episode seventy or thereabouts. Anyway, I think the story would be better if all three characters - Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto - were main characters. That way the mangaka wouldn't have to make Naruto eventually be the best, the characters could stay in their roles.

No matter the flaws, this manga is overall very amazing. You can't find a series like this often, with a world with such depth and characters that you really grow to love. Recommended for all. smile

The general criticism isn't too wrong.
Apart from the great art,design and worldwide, there are too many regular flashbacks and bad shounen elements in this manga.
Imo, it is untrue before the ninja war arc, i love this manga for at least 450+ chapters.
The war arc shows its flaw quite efficiently, it keeps getting dead people back, who have little background, in fact, we simply care less about these characters than many others.
It also makes the enemies real enemies, say, the dead people themselves have little point to live anyway, it also makes the war a very legitimate war.
Imo, it is kind of boring. Nonetheless, it is a great chance to briefly give more cast to other characters, which is one thing i hoped to see.
Unfortunately, It doesn't seem to maintain its quality, the visual quality is great as always but the fight is horrible. It wishes to show more diversity on jutsu but lost track on the fundamental nature of ninjas.

In the old days, the first serious fight is Kakashi vs Zabuza, Kakashi is very ninja,a tactician.
Zabuza is the first who really makes use of the unrealistic jutsu element in a fight. However, it is a great feature in this manga, the use of it still involves lots of tactics,decision making and such. It adds complexity and diversity. It also makes the world looks more uncertain.
The style is there for at least, roughly, 450 chapters. The fights involves Sasuke is particularly great. This good element seems to be lost when the war expands to the "kage level", it talks more about certain jutsus than actual fight, some particular jutsu kicks everyone ass.
Madara and most dead kages have this properties. In the war arc, it is mostly about great jutsu, then some talk, then counter the great justu with some other great jutsu. It doesn't feel too solid as a fight. It also talks more about philosophy but doesn't apply such philosophy in a fight too well.

The war arc is not entirely bad, the plot involves Sasuke is great. The Naruto side of plot is particularly unfunny and regular. I think Kishi is a genius, if they aren't so pushed to release that frequently i think they can make much better plot and character design on the Naruto side.

When I first heard about it I was an avatar fan and avatar had ended and I didn't want to watch it.my friends said it was good so I decided to watch it but I started from shippuuden season 6 .I didn't understand anything at first but I was soon absorbed into the characters ,plot and everything especially sasuke.I tried reading the manga but it isn't m thing so I only watch the anime which I love but I'm generally a shounen fan.this anime was my first and it's the anime that drew me into the world of anime and manga when I got my first manga book.naruto shippuden manga.It's like the father of all mangas and to me it's the most popular followed b bleach.

It has some amazingly interesting characters, like Itachi, but also lots of ridiculous plot and dialogue. It's shounen after all. But for too extended and naive battles I enjoyed it.

I'm quite convinced that Kishimoto is a really skillful mangaka, but somethings are like restraints to him, like the shounen genre itself. It's quite common to see people complaining about this manga, but they can't tell why they don't stop reading it. I'd guess it's because Kishimoto can hold their attentions and make they wonder "what'll happen next?". They just don't realize it.

Naruto is a manga that probably makes WSJ earn a lot of money and that's why it keeps going for a long time. But I'm quite amazed by the fact that even being a big series, it didn't lost its coherence up to now, something that's really common to shounen series.

Naruto is a cliche manga? Of course it's cliche! Look at the magazine it's published! It's meant to be read by people who want to see cliche shounen! Its target public are teenagers, not young adults who have read a lot of other shounens in their lives!

In general, the art is good (for a weekly series, it's awesome), the plot and pace are steady and it's really addicting depending on your taste.

Regardless of the flaw of some major characters and sometimes repetitive fighting skills, I' still religiously follow every new chapter of Naruto. Maybe because I like the clip hanger that Masashi Kishimoto put on every chapter or how he manages to make the character grow in mind and body as the series progresses.

At first, when I saw my friends read this series, I'll be honest with ya. I didn't care about it one bit. But when my sister told me that I had to record it for her when the anime first came on in the US I was annoyed, for I didn't find it interesting at all to read. Then after watching the very first episode, My heart and soul was devoted to the series, and I wanted to get everything from it. The cards, the video games, the manga, everything. That when I first started reading the rest and started the manga, and I loved everything about it. The characters which Naruto was my favorite cause he was someone I could relate to when i was know. Sasuke the rival/Best friend, and many other characters that are unique and awesome in their own way like Hinata Hyuuga and such. The storyline was great as the slow ended in part 1. But then continue to part 2. I have to agree with some people about the Sasuke thing but as Hinaru77 said which I did look up and confirm, that without Sasuke, kishimoto would not have made this story so long to be begin with. Plus there were a lot fight then devleopment that I think that need to be there. The author kishimoto, had an older, pliot story about the main character, Naruto, being a demon instead of ninja, for he didn't really like the way of the japanese traditional on the ninja socitey and the use of the hand signs. So the author tried to make his own creation as a "This is the ninja world of Naruto Uzumaki, and it turned out quite well, for it become a popular hit in japan. Kishimoto tried his best to make the storyline unique as the main character, Naruto, tries and help to change many people throughtout the series adn still does now. He really is the knuckle head ninja that has the magical words that seem so simple yet very unique, as he goes through every mission, very fight and very course to be the next hokage. Now that we're it's end, there is now a war that must be done that Naruto must fight for. You may think it uncool to have a sixteen year old fight in a war, but hey that's how it was back then as kishi had said the in war, loved ones die, people get killed, people lose their home. etc as he was told by his grandmother that long ago of the terrible stories they had in WW2. So now that I'm a least a decade in the series and still am devoted to. Now that I know that kishimoto is putting this series into his climax, it kind of makes me sad. I wish that he would continue with it, just not with Naruto trying to bring back Sasuke all the time and actually have everyone fight together as a team, with new powers and such. Now as I read up to chapter 585, the author just keeps getting better and better with the plot, now that it's coming to an end with it's funny, colleging roles, that this series had played for the last 12 years of writing. I hope that he'll do a squeal with the next generation of Naruto or something like that. But untill the very end, recommend that you watch it or read it.

I remeber reading this when I was very young and it took a hold on me. This story plot was great, the teamwork was awesome and the fights were good as well. I love part one all the wayt till the end, where jouney's to become stronger. Part 2 I read and knew what was going to, and now even now, i'm still reading the series. Kishimoto says that he's finally bringing the series down, but when Naruto really ends, I'll will cry. I wish it wil go on and be awesome, just like one piece but Kishimoto once said, that if he didn't have Sasuke who is Naruto's rival in the series, this story would have ended in ten weeks. lol. So i can now see we Sasuke is so important in part 2. Plus because he is the only one that Naruto hasn't ben able to change. But all the characters are amazing and awesome, including Sakura, Hinata, Rock lee, Kakashi, and is still consider one of the best series of all time. So i'll and many other readers should just read it all the the end, cause the series, is coming to it end soon, very soon.
