Description
Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, the nine-tailed demon fox attacked Konohagakure. It was a powerful demon indeed; a single swing of one of its nine tails would raise tsunamis and flatten mountains. It raised chaos and slaughtered many people, until the leader of the Leaf Village - the Fourth Hokage - defeated it by sacrificing his own life to seal the demon inside a newly-born child. i've read about all the chapters but didnt watch the anime, anyway it wouldnt matter cuz i am gonna talk about the manga.
Story/Plot :
It was better in the first 200 chapters or so, but the last 2 years especially... i can only say it is mediocre as a shounen. Kishimoto must have a fetish for eyes. Not to mention we are waitin for naruto to save the world... i'd give 4 for story over 10.
Art/Style :
If this manga has good art-as the fans say- then what are we gonna call the art of mangas like UDDUP, The Breaker or Bleach(btw i am not a bleach fanboy or a fangirl)? There are so many artist that make your jaw drop out of awe. Unfortunately kishimoto is not one of them. 4/10.
Character Development :
Story begins with both naruto and sasuke about age 13 if i remember correctly, they fight for their lives about a year and naruto goes into training for 3 years. So these 3-4 years are actually what makes a boy into a man. And in those years, naruto is still a loser- fighting not included- and sasuke is still an emo fag. Their personalities doesnt change over their most important years. Still a fool and still a depressed emo. Sakura's mental state is so unstable that i cant even find a word for it. But i must admit they are cool while fighting, so 5/10
Comedy
Its About Okay i guess :S 5/10

I like Naruto cause it's not you're typical shounen when the villain is pure evil. In this manga we see that almost every villain had their reason, not because I'm Evil and I'm going to rule the world bullshit without any explanation. My only disappointment is if only that Naruto is seinen.

You're response to some of the people who didn't like the manga and/or anime was rude. I'm a girl and I enjoy reading this.
Now onto the actual review of the manga.
The mangaka had improved tremendously over the years as far as artwork has gone. He makes believabe and very real characters as far as personality goes but as the same time he makes characters whose personalities are very unrealistic. It is a very fine line and IMO he balances it perfectly. I just hope that he doesn't pass away before the end of the series or I'm gonna be fucking pissed.
All in all, it has a somewhat traditional plot, I guess and it isn't for every one but I'm still gonna give it a 9/10.

@Faukner: well im a girl and i think this manga/anime is good up until volume 27+ i felt that the series was just an ongoing cycle and stopped reading nd watching. I agree with infidelityoncrank, it drags on far too long that the ending might disappoint or worse the author might be dead before finishing the series and we'd all be pretty pissed now wont me (hope it doesnt happen thou). I mean i have friends and family under my influence that started to love this manga and is still loving it i mean my mom is inlove with this that she dressed up my 1yr old brother as naruto during halloween. Well my point is not all girls love/hate shounen and not all boys love/hate shoujo so get over it already.

I can't believe it, users like poshsam below me and oraclegirl before that. I mean you cannot call a series that is still going strong after 10 years and 50 friggin volumes overrated and even if you can I'm sorry but i cannot accept a girls pov on this.
If I had to go around rating and slating every shoujo manga I dared read my mind would blow up with the negativeness.
Long story short don't judge it by the first volume. Its not a perfect series by any means but don't go bashing on Naruto just because its cool to nowadays. I've read all of the manga seen the anime(not the fillers of course) and I like the series omg wow!
P.S I also read skip beat and thought it was quite good.

alright, i've tried out volume 1 and i have to say, it's mediocre in story telling and art, pretty much every other manga out there kind of thing, it's really not worth all the hype and how can anyone even like the characters?? they're all silly, shallow and big fat cliches.
if you've read one piece, dragonball z and enjoyed them, then this is for you, if you hated those former series, then forget this and move on, or be like me and try out the first volume and THEN move on(I only read it to find out why everyone was obsessed with it, in case I was missing out on something). |

I started reading this back when it first came out on the internet. I have always loved ninjas (TMNT is still my # 1 for kick butt ninjas) and this had promise. Now, it's just dragging on too long. I'm really just waiting to see who Naruto ends up with, Hinata or Sakura.

Okay. First things first. I think Naruto is totally awesome just because it was able to entertain me after 472 chapters. Yes, I'm updated so I will not be biased like many of the anime watchers here that continue to believe the anime is exactly like the more superior manga.
I'm not saying it's the best manga in the world. No way will it hit that, but it's totally impressive to reach such popularity in the world.
Art:
Of course, compared to many shounen, Naruto's pretty good. The art is pretty bad at first, but it gets better. A LOT BETTER. I don't really read because of art though, so my opinion in art doesn't really matter.
Plot:
EXTREMELY TOTALLY AWESOME. Not the plot in general, just his ideas pop like crazy. As if Kishimoto doesn't mind making the cash or not, he is able to put in new characters and everyone would think they had been in his head since he first made the first volume. The general plot can get a little boring though. It actually annoys me at times too, how Sasuke never seems to think rationally. This is fine overall though, just because Sasuke is the whole plot of Naruto. He is the one that speeds plot development and character development. AND HE IS PRETTY HOT. Even though everyone hates him, he is hot. AHAHHAHA.
Characters:
LOOOOOVEEE THE CHARACTERS. One of Kishimoto's greatest talents is creating characters that will be memorable in your mind forever (or at least a very long time). (*whispers* HAKKUUUUUUU KYAAAAHHHHHH) I do wish that Sasuke was nice again though, but that would just give the story no plot. Character development happens almost all the time (I do believe that Naruto is the embodiment of character development). OH YES. CHARACTERS DO DIE. Kishimoto will kill characters if needed. It's not like what many say-THIS MANGA CAN BE FOR OLDER AUDIENCES TOO. Death does happen, just for the sake of development of plot and characters.
Length:
I think the length is doable, but 472 chapters is very long for many people. I do not think it is being dragged out though, since almost every arc (to me) seems very important and will alter the story ten folds. All the arcs seem as if they really are getting toward their goal. It does seem though that it is getting towards its end, since lots of important stuff happened within the last few chapters~ JUST SAYING. But it is the past the ten year anniversary already... so you never know.
EVERYTHING ELSE I FORGOT:
I don't know why Naruto became so popular, probably just because it was on Cartoon Network (the animeless network in the day so no kids know quality shows) or maybe just because it appeals to both genders but I do know that I like it. AND IT'S NOT JUST BECAUSE IT IS POPULAR. It's because it has a pretty nice storyline that is followed through to the end (if there ever is one...), really awesome characters, decent art, and great development. (You can ignore this comment but BLEACH SUCKS. I TRIED SO HARD FOR SO LONG TO READ IT.... BUT IT REEKS OF MANGAKA DOING IT FOR THE MONEY.) Thank you Masashi Kishimoto for bringing this beautiful story and continuing to do it beautifully as if you really treasure it (I hope you do). |

when a manga has 470 chapters, i mean comeon it bekumz boring, chapters god nothing really happens, its just soo stupid. Plot is good but I mean its streched sooo much. Comeon finish it already. chpaters go by with nothing really dat major happening in it. At the beginning awesome but now really average. Its just taking too long. Chapter has about 19 pages, for which you wait a week. out of those 19 chapters, perhaps maybe 2 has something interesting or something u didnt already know b4. Also like bleach, therez too many pointless fights. Does the reader really have to know about every fight that happens god. I mean its just not about Naruto anymore. Just finish it quik, and maybe then I will finf better of it. Plot is good though and story was awesome at da beginning....

| I remember watching the premiere of episode one on Cartoon Network. Mt friends read Naruto and liked t, but it never appealed to me. THEN, I saw the episode and loved it! Naruto was energetic and unruly. I couldn't wait for more. I loved watching it and even dragged my dad and stepdad into it! I love the diverse characters and finding out their pasts, watching them grow up was great, but after a while I lost interest. I am starting Shipudden now though. I was obsessed and lost interest. But that doesn't mean I don't still love it!It inspired me and makes me believe, in what, I don't know. Just don't avoid it because of its popularity. You'll miss out! |
