Ok. We all agree that art is important when coming to manga (notice that i'm using a very wide generalization/lie), so my question is: what kind of art are you attracted to?

For bonus marks, say the ones you dislike and why. (Be gentle or i'll put you down. -_-)

On another note, forgive me if I offend you. I know my way of describing someone's way of drawing may be ignorant, but this is just for knowlodge so I am no longer ignorant. And i'll add 'other' just incase I forget one =). Oh and by anime, I mean the really shiny legs that are super 3D and contain A LOT of movement, or suggestion of it.

I'll start it off by saying that I love abstract manga. It makes me want to read it over and over again... I dislike old-school manga and hardcore big-eyed shoujo (didn't even finish Gentlemen's Alliance...), simply because things are too small; it does not resemble a real person's body.

I like realistic looking art most, stuff like Battle Royale or Gantz.

I still like anime style stuff a lot, but I also like more realistic styles like Urasawa Naoki's.

I'm kinda partial to Ai Yazawa's art style for the girly manga I like to read. I also rather like the way Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is drawn. As for shonen/seinen... I like the mangaka for Ichigo 100% and the person who did I"s

I like abstract because it reminds me of Eureka Seven and I also like real life because the beautiful ladies of clamp so such a good job on all of their manga, you can see where they but time and effort putting all the white dots of paint on everything to make it look so real.

Almost all types of styles appeal to me, so I can't respond to the poll. However, I do know I dislike extreme shoujo styles in a shounen series. It just doesn't fit well.

I voted other since I like art that looks hand drawn, where the art looks gritty and rough such as Vagabond, Blade of the Immortal, Jiraishin and the early chapters of Naruto. I also like real life stuff where a focus of the art lies in the expressions of the characters such as Asano Inio's works Solanin and Nijigahara Holograph, Urusawa Naoki's works 20th Century Boys and Monster, Harold Sakuishi's Beck, and Fujisawa Tohru's GTO.

I prefer art styles that allow me a good view of the surrounding area and blend in the characters naturally. Art styles that only emphasize characters seem to lack a setting, and when characters are floating in space I'm a little annoyed. At the same time, when the characters and the background seem to have a disparity, and the background just seems to be a backdrop, or the character actions aren't clearly visible, I'm unhappy as well.

Yeah, backgrounds that look pasted-on, with no depth/interaction with the character is kind of annoying to me too.

I like a variety of art styles. Pretty much all pro manga-ka in Japan can draw well enough for me. The art should suit the story though.

More specifically, I like seinen because the drawings and inks are good, and characters are drawn simply but are expressive. (I think - I haven't read much seinen yet). And I like the josei style because it's not too sparkly and cutesy, and frequently the lines have an unfinished feel to it that's really appealing. Examples are Walkin' Butterfly and Honey and Clover.

Also, I like old-school, '70s style inking. Lately I've been seeing a lot of thin lines, especially in shojo. I love when an artist uses a G-pen and gets a nice thick tapered line. For example, work by [a]Tezuka[/a] or '70s shojo like Rose of Versailles; a more modern example is Yugi Yamada's work such as Spring Fever.
