I don't know. I'm one of those people that appreciates seeing the evolution of the artist.

If I had to pick though, these could all benefit from a face lift in certain parts:

On the otherhand, I've actually seen some series where I think the art has gotten worse as it progressed, namely:
Fruits Basket
Kare Kano
I preferred how these series looked early in the series compared to later chapters. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm weird. shrug °v(.)v°

It didn't look to good when it only began, but after the manga progressed in the later volumes, it looked much better..

Hellsing really does have a strange start..

It comes from the fact it was a hentai story on the very beginning... You still can find it on some Mirc server . It's quite rare . It's about the rape of seras by the valentine brothers and Alucard save her .
This is quite interesting to see how much it evolved :for instance some of the attributes of Anderson belongs to Alucard in this draft like the glove with the quote of the Bible

So Hellsing has inherited the plot and the drawing of this oneshot : basically the mangaka had not really any ideas about where he was going hence this very awkard beginning .
As I said before I think the anime beginning is awesome and should be the canon one :
the realisation is way more elegant (dizzy travelling for the first meeting between seras and alucard , bloody and surreal light , moon rising as Alucard gathers his powers in something reminiscent of Sin city ,alucard shooting blindly , reloading his gun with his canins , telepathy between seras and alucard through the eyes ,etc...)
and it conveys more thing about the vampire universe (like the choice explicitly offered to seras this time ,his real liking in her , the despise of alucard toward most of the others vampires , the telepathy of alucard , the seduction through the power of the vampire priest and the kiss/bite scene of alucard , the insane level of strenght of alucard as he's really enjoying the situation by mocking the other vampire to a extent rarely matched : "you're a fool that creates slave to do his dirty work , a coward and an incompetent incapable of doing anything on your own : you're not worthy of the lowest pit of hell!!! " 😲

True, true, I agree in some ways. Hana-Kimi's like that...not that I was in love with the art in the beginning or anything, but I really didn't like the way it changed towards the end. Besides which, eyebrows do NOT cover half of someone's face. They just don't.

ima go with inuyasha. i didnt like the pointed cheeks 2 much and often rounded em when i drew the characters....i always changed a lot of it....and sometimes completely changed it and making it my own creation....hmmmm and ichi the killer. their art was just weird in how they drew the people. and ichi always had the most retarded smile

Yeah, I forgot about Hana-Kimi. It's like the mangaka are starting to draw their characters in a way that's easier for them (faster to get chapters out to feed the fans) but they sacrifice appearances in exchange.

The eternal debate: appearance or deadline? Of course the deadline wins.
