No, it's not. Most people have no clue what it is. Others just laugh at it. Really, everyone used to watch Pokemon, but if you still like "cartoons"... then...
But it's "tolerated". People who read it aren't bashed at all. There's an anime/manga club with a few people in it, and it's mentioned in the yearbook, with no one caring except the people in the club, and the people who would join but don't have the time.
It was never popular at my hs anime was starting to gain some quick ground but hardly anyone knew of manga. I was pretty surprised a few months ago I was sitting at work and somebody randomly brought it up. Eventually i found out that about 6-7 people i work with read manga and they really just didn't seem like the manga type 😲

I hardly know any people who know what manga is, let alone like it.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

There's probably only a handful of people throughout my whole school that even knows what manga is. The only manga we have in our library are the old Dragon Ball ones.

In my year it's quite popular....among most of the asians ( which is about 80%). The popular kids don't know it exists and the other asians are fans of anime and J-drama.
Manga seems the most popular in my year out of the whole school, must be due to the sudden popularity of Naruto and fruits basket when we started high school. (We were easily influenced in yr 7 😳 )
Edit: School library also has manga but was called graphic novels. Local libraries too.
Actually i was surprised ive seen a couple people in my classes that have mangas out and reading them i was like O.O No way! i really wanted to ask what their fav was but i didnt say anything ^^; in middle school a bunch of anime/manga fan ppl formed a club but they were pretty weird so i stayed faaaaar away and normally i dont tell anyone. The problem is that most ppl who like it, are uhhhh.....kinda weird @_@ so SOME ppl make fun of you if you like it where i live. Even my best buddie dosent know....its kinda a secret hobby >.<

Well, I go to an arts school (I don't know, but I think that kind of makes a difference) so a lot of people I know read/watch manga/anime. However, there are also a lot of people that dislike it a lot.
My local library has 2 sections for manga (you can also place requests and get them from the other library branches in my city) and my school has related art books (Gundum mostly).
So I voted for people read manga in my school. I don't know how much, or how little, but I know we have several fans out there. (We even have an anime club, so it's not unpopular)

In my school there's an anime/manga club and even though i'm not in the club i go and see what they're reading or watching. Last week they were watching Gundam Wing and discussing about the upcoming Astro Boy movie and some kids were reading stuff like Vampire Knight, One Piece etc. But it is not cool in my school the kids are called dorks and everything and its so annoying to hear people say that.

exactly, same thing happens with my school!
it was weird, cause some weird kid mocked me cause i was reading it online, but i brought up the fact that hes a teenage magician who can't even pull a rabbit out of a hat, so he pretty much shut up after that 😛
I won't go around being like OMG MANGA OTAKU but if someone asks then i'll tell them and i'll talk about it. If they don't like it i'm pretty good at defending myself and my views so i don't mind 😛
I said "depends on the manga", but i really mean it depends on the anime as most people in my school watching DBZ, sailor moon, pokemon, digimon but don't even know that they were made in japan x.x
