When I started high school DBZ was still the shiznit. By my senior year some kids, mostly freshmen and sophomores were playing yugioh. Manga, however wasn't all that well known, besides Love Hina and Dragonball.

i don´t know anyone else in my school who likes manga. and i really doubt that everyone knows what it actually is (i am from slovakia, and i haven´t seen any place where i may buy manga here yet.)
but i think that even if someone knows what manga is and reads them, he won´t tell anyone about it, because generally when you say for example word "comics" everybody immediatelly imagines something for children who are about 7-10 years old. even my best friend thinks that the part of me that reads manga is strange (she too didn´t know what manga is... T_T)
hmm....but i have to tell that i don´t live in a big city ( ...... like we have any here.... 🤢 )
and manga in our library....lol. i can´t even imagine it (actually, i find it really frustrating. . .)

Nope <.< I'm the only one who does. everybody goes "you like anime?"....i'm like "it's called manga" >.< ...anyway only nerdy guys in my school like it...and they only like cowboy bebop and dbz...nobody likes the stuff i read. and there are a few people who "like" naruto, but they really don't, they only watch it to make small talk -_-

yeah so now i'm rejected by my school's badminton team 'cause the girls found out i like reading yaoi (during a game of never have i ever)...and now they avoid me like the plague <.< it's a good thing they didn't really tell the whole school u.u

i live in the whitest town on long island...everybody associates manga/anime with "girls with big boobs" or "annoying voices" (<--only if you watch the dubs).

so long story short,
no...in my school, manga is definitely not cool

We don't have manga in the library.
And nobody knows what manga actually is. They pronounce it the wrong way, same counts for anime.
There are some guys that actually read manga (the stoners, you know, I live in Amsterdam), but they never talk about it or anything. I found out when I said I was pratically an otaku and they were suprised (because, without offense, I'm a geek on the inside, but on the outside...) and they told me they also read manga. So I was like: 'Seriously?! What manga's have you read?' And they were like. 'Well, we don't read manga that much...'
Me: 'So?'
'Bleach and Naruto.'
'And?'
'Well that's about it...'

I have no one in RL that I can share my manga-reads with 😔

It's not really considered 'geeky'- just not 'cool' as such.

You wouldn't go around declaring your love for Manga from the metaphorical rooftops, however being spotted casually flicking through a Manga book in the library won't exactly dub you a nerd for life.

though i normally think that there should be some kind of divine retribution for reading yaoi...what those girls did is plain wrong...and badminton is fun to play : (
