I feel its stupid to upload ripped movies and your songs. We all know it is bad.

When its the stuff you can not find because it no longer in print or even no master copies around that a gray area.

The old I want - some things like anime are just available in Australia. like some other places, we are getting more. But say some of the old star trek anime, oh I had forgotten how bad it was 🤢 . but got one and dropped it.

Look people the reality of it this is, If your busted for anything that has search and take in to get something on you.

They Take your computer, all your downloads and whatever. That is a fact. When you want it back before the cops say, you get maybe the tower or laptop without the drives.

If you get charged by by the for doing nasty things, you don't get your downloads back because they will look at them, if they the cops see it is bad you get more added to your stuff.

That is all you get, if you get lucky you might get provable downloads like brought online mp3's, you might get the subbed anime and manga 'IF you are lucky'

Its about just how far you get hit by the cops not about the is it illegal/legal.

Illegal Downloading happens no matter which country ur in, and acutally the US is the only country who acutally cares about that stuff. I heard in the news a few times of people getting caught and being fined thousands of dollars because they dl'ed music or watever, but I think thats just plain stupid. shakes fist, backwater american hick! The US is NEVER the only goverment that cares about something.

Some elaboration... Japan has been taking measures against this too. Haven't you noticed the companies requesting/flagging their videos removed from youtube? They want to stop the free spreading of their properties. One company even created a site that's similar to the OnDemand service except it's online. Remember how the guy who made Winny got arrested? He was fined around $13xxx USD. Quite a few Japanese people that have been scanning manga have been getting arrested in the past few months as well. I recall reading an article about three people being arrested for just this. (Actually the article I linked isn't the one I remember, but it's similar. Makes me wonder when they'll arrest Tazmo 🙄 )

Oh and look here I found something about court action on illegal downloading in Singapore...

The US is DEFINITELY NOT the only one that cares about copyright infringement and illegal downloading. If someone was spreading something I made around for free on the internet, I'd probably take some sort of legal action, too.

Not everything that's illegal is wrong -- I mean, there are places that ban sodomy, but I quite enjoy sodomy myself!

I think that was a bit TMI for this board. 🤣

Yeah it's alright....I do it every day. As long as you don't sell the downloaded games, programs or whatever the police wont go after you.

Do I think it's right or justified? NO.

Am I guilty of downloading pirated materials? VERY.

I don't know why I do it when I know it's wrong, but I just do.

🙁

Justified?
Depends on your morals.
I don't really cry if another
ginormous corporation won't earn 50 bucks.
They should just be happy that they actually
even make something people use.
It's not like I'd buy all that stuff. Would cost
more than mortgage.

For some reason, it doesn't really bother me that I am not spending money on a major corporation who stole the musician's copyright in the first place.

I download music and the occasional movie. I know it's not right, but I do it anyway since I can neither find nor afford them.

Well depends really... if it's a band I really like I'll definitely buy their CD just for the sake of having a concrete item for my collection and etc. However, I don't feel that the absence of my $12-$20 is gonna prevent music stars like Kanye West (sorry if I offend those who are fans of him, lol) from becoming anymore egotistical or building that 500 rooms mansion. Furthermore, I know it's wrong; however, it's unfair to classify "all" illegal downloading as "profit". A kid downloading his favorite song shouldn't be fine some ridiculous amount of money when he has no intention of selling it for money or something. That's just freakn overkill.

it's a difficult topic to discus...
on one hand, the global sharing helps lots of musicians get known in many countries, and it's sometimes the only way to watch movies that never come to your country. on the other hand, many licenses are violated, and the original authors don't get any profit from their works, but in the end, they'll always win something in a way, because they can make some fame, and in their next projects, they will get more money or more offers....
in the end, sharing and internet promotion will be THE way to get known, and it will be free. some bands have distributed their works that way, and had excellent results (their major profit is in tours, so that's the best way to support them- from the Cd's only have a percentage). same for tv series, that can make money from products based on them (best example are anime and cartoon series, with all their products). probably the worst scenario its for books, but i personally prefer always the printed version (reedig so long the pc hurt my eyes... 🤢 )

i personally don't download many things, instead i use p2p programs (that shouldn't be banned as in some countries do).
if you don't make profit of it, i don't think it should be called a crime...

p.s: sorry for the many grammar and coherence errors...

All information of any kind that is connected to the web is meant to be free. (Of course owners of the copyright media are not the ones putting it on the internet, however... so the previous statement is sort of invalid...)

Therefore downloading intellectual property might be morally wrong but it is also necessary. If you disagree with this, you are most certainly a hypocrite because practically 100% of regular web surfers have infringed on some bullsht copyright law.

It is just the way it is... People aren't perfect, from any perspective. Morals are only a part of this.
Copyright material owners still make lots of money regardless of the internet. If something is poppular and worth buying it WILL succeed. Think of Harry Potter books, or Dark Knight movie, or Fallout 3 game or the latest music hit.
On the other hand crappy media won't make any money regardless of whether it is downloaded from the internet or not, because it sucks anyway. This isn't always true, but it is enough to be like that the majority of the time. Like I said there is no perfection with people, so no system thought up by us will ever be perfect.

Intellectual property and copyright infringement aren't perfect either. The systems should evolve to fit the times.
