Ok I'm sure you know the stereotypes for all genres and they're pretty hard to get away from. What I'm looking for is either

1. Something completly original and different (but still good, good luck with this one)
2. Something that may still be obviously shounen/shoujo etc but has an interesting twist

eg for 2. HandxRed protaganist spends 100 years in purgatory then 10 days in the world where he has to track down his ex-friend to get out of the cycle. So there can be no continuity in terms of side characters, everyone he meets will almost certainly be dead by the time he gets out again. Interesting twist for a clearly shounen series. No sidekick, no love interests that can last but still quite good.

Honourable mention to FMA, for not falling into the shounen hole and having a tournament where the alchemists fight eachother.
Also maybe 7 Seeds, bitter virgin, Bokurano

So pretty much any genre, something wholly unique or something with a good twist on the genre.
I cant really think of any more. ^_^ thanks, hope I'm not to vague and confusing.

Katana is very interesting.. Heh.

Things that imho could interest you:

Doubt (TONOGAI Yoshiki) -> horror game made manga
Narutaru -> same mangaka of Bokruano
Genshiken -> if you're in otaku culture
Alive -> it doesn't fall in the shounen hole, at least imho
Vampire Juujikai -> if you like Spiral (Shirodaira imho is one of the best storyteller in the manga world), you can also try this. It could be a typical seinen, but there is an interesting twist after few volumes, if you don't mind spoiler I'll specify down here:

People (and readers) believe at the start that the king of vampire is after the seal of the queen to have her back 'cause he loves her. But in reality he discovered that the queen ordered that the girl whom he truly loved had been killed. So he's after the seal to break it and kill the queen with his hands.
