x0mbie, you shouldn't join in because that statement was just wrong. The area known as Israel today was an Arab area for centuries, though there were conflicts within. I agree Israel of today is its own unique nation.
It is not now, it was not then, and that is what we are talking about. The time in between is completely irrelevant to the current conversation.
@ares, it isn't blasphemous because the parents are not calling their child a god, they are paying tribute to Jesus by giving their child the same name. Though if a child in America of non-hispanic descent was given that name, he'd definitely be given some strange looks.

its not just inbetween though. Its also before and pervasive throughout. Just because he lived during the period of Roman occupation and currently there is a Independent nation in that area, does not mean that all of the Arab culture and influence suddenly vanishes

Ok, tsuto, I have been nothing but consistent, I am sorry if you couldn't follow.
actually, i cant follow u as well ^_^
Also, although I don't think I should be berated for referring to Jesus as an Arab, because he was in fact from palestine, which was for many years an Arab country,
it was a JEWISH country, and if u knew anything youd know the differance. middle east at the time was made of arabs, hebrew, and some other people, note that arabs and hebrews are SEPARATE. read the damn old history book!
I'm apologize if it offended you. Furthermore, in the original post I was only pointing out the fact the Jesus was not Caucasian, a fact, to my own dismay, would probably not be very well received in many parts of the world.
once again, beside travel expenses, i see zero issues in traveling to any other country, except maybe to arab nations, since guess what, were in a freaken war with most of them ^_^

once again, hebrew, not arab, HEBREW. same origin, sister language, different ppl.
and chompy, i see nothing to report here in this healthy discussion ^_^

Sorry, but I really tried hard to understand what you said, but couldn't... And taking into consideration that language's objective is to make others understand our point of view, you fail, you even acknowlegded that. Sorry for my opinion, though, no hard feelings.

Yes...I suppose the western culture is quite different. I think the Asian cultures consider it quite blasphemous to name their kids by a God's name.
Guys, enough off-topic stuff.

I agree there is nothing to report. I suppose I have to concede, the thing is though, I don't believe it was so wrong to say that Jesus was an Arab. He certainly could have been historically. Heres the other thing Arabs are people who declare themselves to be so and are recognized so by others, there certainly could be and probably are Arabs living in Israel today. And as a character I believe he would be much more flavorful as black than white. Especially since I feel us Caucasians have such a tainted history. Furthermore, I think that white Jesus is something invented by the racist Caucasians of the past, a thing hat I would gladly do away with.
for those confused on what I said heres a rundown
- Jesus was Arab and probably isn't white. Also in there was a racial profiling joke.
- I didn't agree it was wrong to call Jesus Arab just because he was born in Israel, because Palestine has a history of an Arab culture.
- I concede that it is not right to call Israel or its people as a whole Arabs.
- I still think Jesus could have been of Arab descent.
for anyone thinking this is off topic, the topic is Jesus so I think this is well within the bounds.

since u are so.... so, let me tell you a little story ^_^
once upon a time there was a land, tiny little dot in the place we now call the middle east.
this land was one day conquered by the HEBREW people from the ARAB people and more who lived in it.
few hundred years later, the same land was conquered by the ROMANS, they exiled the king and most of the HEBREWS to other countries, and developed the place to their liking, calling it palestine , after that, it was conquered by the ARAB people.
60-70 years ago, the exiled HEBREW clans that were exiled from palestine, were allowed to come bacl and rebuild the country.

I was fully aware of the history of Israel prior to this conversation. I was unaware of the hostility the word Arab could instill however.
Also I think you are over-simplifying the diffusion of culture in that region.

Yes, Jesus was a cool guy (answer to the original poll)
And AX, it's one versus many, and I agree with the many. Jewish is not Arab. And historically, to the western world, Jewish people were also very much hated, so it's not just any "hostility". And you're right, Jesus was not a white guy
Btw, the genealogy of Jesus is well documented in the Bible. Look it up yourself
None of us are trying to be mean, but Jesus is Jewish (or Hebrew...if you wanna go that route...), not Arab
But you're also technically right..."Jewish" refers typically to religion, and "Hebrew" isn't all that correct either because that's for language...But then "Arab" is kinda on the language side (with "Muslim" obviously being the religion)...
For the sake of finality, he was Middle Eastern. No one can argue against that. Geography's there~

I heard Jesus was a superstar, but that still doesn't make him cool in my book.

Well, read the Bible perhaps? I don't see how you cannot see Jesus as a cool guy though
