Well, according to the manga, you can only control a person's actions until 29 days from the time you write their name in the death note. After 29 days, the person will die of a heart attack, unless cause of death is specified otherwise. So, if you write your own name in the death note, you'll die in 29 days if you specify your time of death as years from that day. So much for that theory.

Well, if a death note exists, then a Shinigami exists, and if all of that exists, then it is most likely that what Ryuuk said about heaven and hell is also true. According to Ryuuk, there is no heaven and hell. The only thing that awaits someone after death is nothingness. That's according to the manga, and if a death note was real, then it should also mean that there is no heaven or hell. As for what I'll do if I had a death note. It's really hard to say. There are plenty of times when I look around me and think, "Mankind is doomed to eternity if this continues." Wouldn't it be nice to write someone's name such as Osama bin Laden? How much easier would it be to eradicate terrorist organizations with a death note? Also, by having a death note around (or at least a piece of a death note), wouldn't it come in handy in tight situations. I wouldn't go about executing criminals who committed crimes in the past, but if it can be used to prevent future crimes from happening, then it could be helpful. Obviously, it's impossible to be there for every such situation, but for hostage situations, or big incidents such as that, a death note would be the safest way to end the situation with minimal loss of life.

Of course, no matter how pure one's original intentions are, once they get a taste of power they become obsessed with it. So, I would still be reluctant to use it. Even though I originally wouldn't have any overly ill intentions (killing someone is ill intent no matter how you look at it), once I kill someone, I wouldn't be surprised if I then started thinking, "This world would be a lot better without these type of people." So, if a death note existed, and you had one, be careful because your seemingly pure intentions would slowly evolve into evil intentions. So, I would most likely store it somewhere safely. Even though I'm afraid of what I would turn into by using it, you can't help but keep something as powerful as that around.

Kind of a boring answer but I wouldn't use it. Death is so final and if you made even one mistake... I don't think I have the right to judge anyone else to such an extent. I'm against the death penalty anyway/

4. kill the person who pushed me in the mud, waved a poo stick near me then called me ugly in front of everyone making me cry.
5. photocopy and scan a couple of pages.

7. make my shinigami do my bidding for apples.

Realistically i would most likely be like light and do the same thing except that i would be more careful and not let my ego and pride get in my way. plus i would kill way less. thats a lot of writing and work.

In all honesty i think I might go the same way Light did. As in the beginning Light never really meant to be the badguy, it's just the facet that he had that power in his hands he went a little loco.

I guess I'll use it to clean out the prisons.
