Mythology

Wasn't the movie 300 based on a Greek myth or something? Or an I confusing it with another movie? I'm trying to remember what I've heard about it...
Well, it is a story about Spartans, maybe the best warriors the
world has ever had, so I doubt for they have existed for real. >,<

Not myth, actual history of sparta. But the movie was based on a comic book that was based on the history thats why you got those monsters. It actually happened.

Okay, so I was a little mixed up, thank you. Okay, this leads me to another question... favorite movie based on mythology?

I remeber watching this animated mini-series of the Odyssey when I was really little. I know they have certainly told that story many times.

Yeah, it's based on actual history.. It really happened..
Though Hollywood has 'glamourized' it.. There weren't any monsters.. And it wasn't 300 men against a million.. It was 500 men against 100 000, I think..
The only reason why Sparta won, was because they had great tactical skills.. Also the only way the Persians could invade Sparta is going through a narrow passageway between two mountains.. Where only 100 men, at the same time could enter..
Another example of Hollywood 'glamourizing' real history, is Troy
But my memory is a little bit fuzzy, so correct me if I'm wrong..

Troy as in with Brad Pitt? I've never actually seen it, but I've seen more than one mini-series on it.

Yeah, as in Brad Pitt.. 😀 The real story had some big differences.. Though I don't remember what anymore.. 😕
Oh yeah, there's also Alexander with Colin Farrell.. But that has also been glamourized..

Has anyone seen Tristan and Isolde? Is there anything Hollywood doesn't glamorize?

lol, how do you glamorize tristan and isolde? it's just a tragic love story. what did they do, put a fairy godmother in there and made the king an ogre?

Don't you think Helen and Paris was a bit tragic?

Real History -> Frank Miller's 300 comic -> 300 Movie
All of the Hollywood glamorization comes from the actual comic. In reality there were 300 spartans that had to delay the persian armies for half a day but managed to do it for 3 days.

Oooh... Troy. Wasn't Achilles, the legendary warrior who was almost invincible, except his heel, which wasn't soaked in the River Styx in that battle?

Since it's the new year and the Chinese new year is coming next month on the 7th, I post up what I know about the Chinese new year myth.
In Chinese the word for year is Nien. Thousands of years ago, Nien was also the name a horrible man eating monster in China. It would come out of the mountains at a certain time and terrorize a village. One day the people decided to fight back and drive the monster away. Before the Nien arrives, they painted everything the color of blood (red) and banged drums, lit fire crackers and dressed as fierce lions. Nien was driven away that time and the village was prosperous that time. So every time at the date the monster would arrive the people would repeat the same thing and scare it away. Thus people would always prepare for the "Sun Nien". (New Nien) (New Year).
I may have forgotten some things but that's the main idea. 😀
