Silent Hill series questions
Anyone play Silent Hill Homecoming? If so, what do you think?
I have mixed feelings: The camera is really good, the visuals top notch, and the sound still as creepy as ever. However I think I can guess some things about the protagonist early out --- I'm really confused about the nurses in the beginning; even though we don't know much about him, I can't really imagine something symbolic about the nursed past tradition.
Can you imagine an imaginary menagerie manager imagining managing an imaginary menagerie?

Silent Hill 1,2 and 3 are the best. Well 1 is better than all the other ones.
I hope they'll make another Silent Hill to redeem the name that Homecoming has ruined,,,,,, 😲
P.S. Homecoming got great game graphics, great action type moves, great and sad story. However it is not Silent Hill Style.....maybe if it was a different game and not a Silent Hill series.
I loved the story, it was so sad.
when it was revealed that the main character was responsible for the death of his little brother, and went insane. I almost cried. Yeah, he wasn't in the army, he was just in a mental institute.

I think it is exactly the topic. I see nothing wrong.

I agree with most of what hubris has said, however I have a little thing to add:
When playing through SH2 there are many symbols that link to Angela that James clearly percieves. The strongest reason for perception in Silent Hill seems to be guilt. Laura and Vincent are two characters who do not appear to see 'monsters' or the apparent shifts in reality. Vincent is a priest and Laura a child, thus both can be considered innocent.
As for Pyramid Head, his appearances are theorised to reflect the red god, Xulchilbara, whose actions are meant to 'lead people in obedience to God' which xplains his violent judgement and also his knack for pushing James in the correct direction (plotwise).
A ceremony to Xulchilbara (Crimson ceremony) also contains text that strongly infers it is he who creates the shifts in reality and it is he who judges the guilty by luring them to Silent Hill.
p.s. I also think it should be noted that Origins and Homecoming weren't made by Team Silent and thus may not follow the rules of the first three games as closely (I left out SH4 as it's was originally meant to be a spin-off hence it's slightly different gameplay)
But...you're the same as me. It's easier just to run.

The series has a lot of symbolizism. Some of it is confusing to totally understand the meaning and I never caught the Pyramid Heads to reflect a god inflicting punishment. I was aware the main characters either regretted or did something (a sin if that may be the correct term) that led them to Silent Hill therefore they can see the nightmares. Laura is a child so yeah she's an innocent but annoying 🤣 What was Heather's (SH3) regret?
If you pay attention to SH2, there were marked graveyards of future characters: Heather, Walter Sullivan, and Henry. SH5 was ok I guess though confusing with the whole ceremony of sacrificing the eldest of the siblings.

Heather only travels to Silent Hill after Harry dies.
I suppose you could infer that this is the guilt she carries.
As far as seeing the monsters earlier in the game, this is Claudia's doing and the creatures and otherworld are shaped by her will and the latent consciousness of Alessa within Heather (hence the hospital beds in the mall for example).
Heather, to be fair, is a special case because she is Alessa in complete form (i.e. Cheryl and Alessa combined).
if you're interested in the Otherworld mechanics then this is a good read : http://silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Otherworld
there's a lot of ideas in there 😛
of course, part of what makes SH awesome is it's openness to interpretation.
And you're right, SH2, 3 and 4 all have significant overlaps.
Newspaper clippings in 2 refer to Walter's suicide and Victims 7/8 are referenced in the game show sequence. Also, if a memory card with a SH2 save is entered while playing SH3 more references are unlocked.
