Are there any hardcore otakus, male or female, here? I would like to hear some opinions from their viewpoint.

@TheRedSpade Yeah, I have been hiding that fact in public too but now I don't see why I did that.
@TofuQueen I am going to walk around with a "I love manga!!" stamp on my forehead 🤣

Oh I wouldn't mind if she liked yowey and big eyed bishounens.. but she'd need to also have some interest in other genres as well y'know?

Otherwise you'd both be watching anime in seperate rooms and a typical conversation would be something like

Guy: "oh em gee! The latest episode of Bokurano blew my mind. Dung Beetle is like a criminal mastermind!"
Girl: "Oh, okay..."
awkward pause
Girl: "Did you see the latest Sasuke x Naruto doujin? AWESOME x 1000!"
Guy: ".... ..."
Guy: "..."
Guy: "Yeah, so how about this weather, huh?"

Oh my golly wow!!!, Can't stop laughing upon reading this one cause it's so hilarious and so exaggerated, no offense meant. 😁 It's just that i think, and i speak from what i know cause i also have girl friends who are into anime and manga , girls nowadays have broaden their tastes in manga and animes. Well, it's a fact that shoujo mangas would still be on the list but we also watch read shounens, although not all shounens that you have probably watched by now (hey i like ghost fighter for one, ), . You are quite right about the "bishounen part" there but while we are appreciating bishounen we are also appreciating the art. 😁 😁

I see a lot of girls voting for OTHER please explain to us what this OTHER is.... >.<

Quote from Mamsmilk

I have no idea when it comes to these. 🤣
Maybe girl otakus just want to have someone that is not
a mirror image of them or maybe they have been reading too
much of that perfect boy shit. =_= Maybe not, not all otakus are
fat and ugly. I can even see my abs. 😀

Dude right on... sometimes I think they do read to much of the perfect boyfriend stuff and maybe expect to much? Maybe there to shy to come out and say they are? Who knows...

hey, untrue not all otaku girls ... uh well... okay i will admit that a lot of girls want to have the "perfect" guy but, sometimes it's all about comfort... i guess that i can say for my self that i would like a guy that can talk about other things other than anime or manga. rein in that otakuness, just a bit. can still be an otaku, but would know when to be serious.

but all in all, everyone hides their otakuness, let it be everything or half of their otakuness.

I personally didn't vote on this one. Probably because I don't care whether my boyfriend is an otaku or not. I've somewhat skimmed the last few pages, and basically, the arguments could all apply to different kinds of girls. The only guy that I've ever gone on a date with (it was just a prom date), wasn't technically an otaku, but a video game freak, and I thought that he was pretty cool.

Besides, are otaku guys even interested in a relationship?

I disagree, just a bit. Surely there is a middle ground between hiding and flaunting otakuness?

I don't hide my interest in manga (or anime, though it's secondary to manga for me). I read manga in public, buy it without sneaking around, have it openly in my home, etc. On the other hand, I don't cosplay on a daily basis, wear clothes or accessories with anime/manga characters all over them, etc.

How can moderate otakuness be expressed, anyway? 😕

... THIS IS HILARIOUS!... hahaha, i can see your point! lol!!! my older brother likes watching (sometimes) romantic type genre like DA CAPO... i despise this type of genre... i like watching fighting/fantasy/martial arts type ( king of fighters, fist of the north star, KIBA... etc.!)... or comedy and sports type ... like yakitate!japan...eyeshield 21 ... ( yeah it's impossible! but it's funny!)

ah and to say about yaoi fangirlism/fanboyism, you guys/girls have hentai and lesbian mangas/doujinshis... so it shouldn't matter... lol

It depends on where you live. Where I live, people don't really hide it or show it, but just talk about it when it comes up in conversation. Non-otakus don't care. Personally, I like a guy more if he also likes manga...

I pretty much hide it, which sucks since anime/manga is such a HUGE part of my life 😢

same here, not a lot of people care if you're an otaku or not, just when the conversations is circulating, but same as you, i would like a guy if he likes manga/anime as well.

lol ya, i feel like most people must think i'm pretty uninteresting and do nothing.

One of my friends finally learned about all my crazy interests, and he was totally surprised, and said he wouldn't have expected to do so much crazy and weird but interesting stuff.

not sure whether to take it as a compliment or not 😐

I just want a guy who I can hang out with who wants to do spontaneous things like jumping in the car and driving to the beach for the weekend. Hes gotta be there for me, too. The general "good guy" stuff.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Downloading for manga because we're not under the illusion that buying translated stuff that's usually crap actually "supports the mangaka"

olol. I guess you never took an economics class in your life.

I haven't, but I was always under the impression that just like in the music industry, the mangaka has already "sold their rights" to the publisher and only gets a set amount of money per month, not per copies sold. I doubt mangaka actually profit too much from licenses overseas, since the publisher is in control and just gives the mangaka a small amount of money for drawing the manga in the first place. I could be wrong though.

I didn't even know what an otaku was in till a few days ago. I have enjoyed both anime and manga now for a few years now but have never herd of this word... maybe because I only use to view my anime in english. If you would say I am a girl otaku because I enjoy both forms of art then yes I guess I am. Can I live with out it? Yes. Does it make life funner by having it around? Yes. I guess its all on your point of view.. I have yet to go out with an otaku guy because I myself can't find one or maybe im just viewing them as nerds 🙂 . Otaku or not a guy who has goals and plans for his life rather then just anime and manga is a turn on. People who make it there life and can't live with out it, well thats just sad.
