WTF is with these shounen romantic comedies?

It may just be me but I've watched three series now that start of with the first half being comedy and light romance and all the sudden they just 180 into some action/drama crazy subplot.
I'm watching Princess Lover and though I knew it was going to turn into a bit of drama because of the parents suddenly it's about a nuke factory on the border of foreign countries and some massive international assisination/war plot. Seriously?
I forget the names of the others but just before this I watched one where the main character is in love with his sister and a third rich girl moves in and about 2/3 in the fact that their parents are government agents becomes a major plot point and it turns all actiony. Again?
What happened to plain old boy loves girl but has trouble confessing, awkward situations, and happy endings? It's infuriating because they never include these huge plot points in the summaries.
Sorry, I just wanted to rant about the time I wasted on these series due to false expectations, and this seemed like the best place to do it... Still it's weird that I just happened to watch three that turned out that way in a row, is this becoming popular recently or something?

I honestly don't go near the Shounen Romantic Comedies, they either take try to 'have ones cake and eat it too' to be metaphorically speaking. Making a harem of girls with large breast and start off with some action plot where the protagonist shows his GARness and all the big breasted bimbos are over him like nerds to a real life girl on an internet chat. Having Romance, Comedy and Fanservice and trying to make it feel like there is a plot by adding a plot revolved around action kind of means that the writer didn't thought through anything but tities and panty shots when writing the storyboard. The action is either one-sided, shallow or just downright boring and unimaginative, resulting in a profound disappointment for me. But then again some people like this stuff.

Not only do they do a 180, they hardly ever romantically conclude. I mean, most of them finish without a couple at the end of the series. I sometimes have to wonder why they're even classified as romance XD
Despite this I still find myself watching them. It's the art that keeps me watching. I wonder how long that's going to last...

as well as the that, most shounens only put in romance as sort of a side plot if they're between arcs, to put in a filler. They dont really concentrate on the relationships that much. The only manga i read so far (that i can remember) that has barely sticked to a romantic storline is love hina. And near the end
they started to learn super moves and stuff. they even went to fight in a foreign country
its best to stick to shounen for action, and shoujo for romance.

I can't stand she shoujo men though, they're always pretty boys who always seem to have that same cold but soft once you get past it personality that's just so unrealistic.
That's the thing though, I was specifically looking for romances (as I recently watched Toradora! and loved it but don't like most other shoujo romances) and I don't see why they needed to do it, the stories were good without the ridiculous shifts. I guess I kind of understand how if they want to bump the rating for shounen they need to add more shounen cliches for popularity, but what's wrong with a comedic loves story?
In regards to that image is that really true? I mean I take knowledge from a manga with a grain of salt usually but I guess that makes sense at least.
Honestly I think the only shounen romance anime I enjoyed was Midori no Hibi.

You do realise that ToraDora is a shounen romance?
Because what you said implied you thought it was shoujo.
anyway, yes I agree too. Most of those are senseless, pointless wishfulfillment shows aimed at the desperate Japanese otaku who would only go for a real girl if she was sufficiently moe.
There are a few mold breakers here and there, but you really have to look for em.
I can recommend you ef-a tale of memories. Which is a great anime, has cute and touching scenes and actually has a point.
Not sure wether its shounen or seinen though.

I think it's a shounen, although I seinen may also fit. How confusing XD
I liked that anime as well. It was good 😃

and there's also some where it's the comedie part that goes wild... nyan koi and seto no hanayome for exemple.
these two have nice story to develop from and then they go too much into the comedie to become just plain stupid anime, not even funny anymore.

thats just how people see it nowadays it seems i mean a story that starts off with a great comedy romance jumps into a huge action
no idea why but i guess its popular in japan?
personally i just wish for a bit more romantic ending instead of like bam were back to our same old routine
I personally just finished tayutama kiss on my diety
the ending got to me but it was actiony like 4 epi on with drama lol
im still waiting for a great anime with good romance but like a good plot not just some i love you you love me lets be happy thing lol too corny for my taste
Fate does not coming knocking at your door but rather it is you who is knocking at fate's Door.

when i read some of the post i get the feeling that all the romance shounen you watch are actually hentai games that later got turned into anime
if you watch Princess lover, tayutama kiss on my diety or the two Ef animes for anything more than tits and moe you have taken a wrong turn
95% of anime based on hentai games are kind of BAD
you accept the bad parts in the game bcoz you know that soon the good parts show up
in a TV anime the good parts are taken out
Air,Kanon,To Heart, Comic Party and tsukihime are the biggest exceptions ...could be the only decent romantic-shounen-hentaigame-nowAnime there is

shounen RC are extremely exaggerated, shoujo rc are extremely annoying and predictable. stuff that is mainly supposed to be about the romance don't stay that way for long.

I'd suggest Clannad and Clannad:After Story
Great Anime with all your looking for and more. Mostly slice of life stuff though, no real action or anything. But there is a plot and a lot of arcs. Really good story though, touching.
