Know any JRPG haters?

I know plenty of people who hate JRPGs. And also plenty who think they're something godly. xD
I have nothing in particular against them myself, but they fail to get to me as much as our (as in, Western) RPGs do. I just don't get as excited about JRPGs as I do about things like Baldur's Gate or (someone mentioned) The Elder Scrolls.
I like the long (long long long) stories in JRPGs. Western RPGs don't have as deep a story, they are snippits and are often too open (the main story gets lost --- I'm looking at you TES/Fallout).
I become bored with Western RPGs far more quickly than JRPGs but I won't deny that they can be really fun... also, does anyone remember Legend of Dragoon for the Playstation? It was made by SCEA and it should be a western RPG right...? The linear story, graphics (art), and gameplay are very similar to JRPGs (except the magic system was terrible).

So you don't like Bethesda. Good for you. Join the crowd. They do make bad design decisions, but still get a (far too) large user base thanks to pretty graphics.

No, SCEA just published and localized the game for America. SCE, in Japan, made the game. Please fact check.

Its true that j-rpgs have lagged behind in progress in comparison to the western rpgs, still using old mechanisms like turn based random battles, linear scripts, linear quests, no dialog choices, etc and truth be told I haven
t enjoyed a j-rpg like i enjoyed neverwinter nights 2 or kotor for a long time, but its also true that you can
t find any story like xenogearss or digital devil
s in any non-jrpgs.
Me... i love both japanese and western rpgs, but if i have to choose between awsome gameplay or a great story, i will choose the later in the end.
(Btw i think fallout 3 is a seriously overated game, it was very fun and enjoyable, but the main story was the least to say a joke. Much like oblivion, but not so bad)

Yeah I do, it's a subgenre that ties into anime/manga (usually), so if you don't have the like for either, JRPGs won't be much fun. I do find that JRPGs are more traditional(usually) than western style. There are good pint to both, though I do find myself more of a action RPG fan.

I do hate most of the new jrpgs, specially the ones that arrive to the west, some really good jewels have been lost because of noone translating them, old school is another story....
games like final fantasy have become more and more pathetic, and many franchises that tried to evolve ended up just killing the game itself
There's nothing like an old linear rpg to enjoy the story and some nice mechanics as in CT and i can die happily playing

Well to me I really hate a lot of the new Final Fantasy's I mean it seems that they are getting to generic like Final Fantasy X I cant stand that game and the new gimmick of a game X-2. But, I like the ones that It actually feels that you can change things as a characters I really hate any games that you cant really edit your strength or magic and etc. I usually hate the games that the only way to edit your skills is through putting stuff in your items I really belive that is worthless and dumb. That and also that you have to level up to use an weapon that I always thought it was dumb unless if your skill level in that area is low.

I hate 'em, and RPGs in general. Unless they're the explosive-missile-down-a-barrel-kind.
I dont really care whether its western rpg or jrpg as its good I'll play it. But I find most Jrpg has this theme "save the world" of course there are some exception, I guess their main target are teenager, nevertheless there is really good jrpg like Xenogears, the story is very complicated, not to mention there's so many plot twist and also has the best music.

In general I find western RPGs to be more innovative and interesting. Though games like Oblivion and Fable are often criticized for being too 'open' and lacking story, there are hundreds of JRPG's in existence that all almost invariably recycle the same handful of plot themes, gameplay systems, and stock characters ad nauseum. There's very little originality. They can still be fun to play, but I find myself drawn more towards western RPG's that are still doing new things with the genre.

The problem with RPG's and JRPG's is that it's like going around in a circle for a long time, then you realize that it's meaningless to play that kind of game type.. Rpg takes ones life away, took mine a few years and Im not proud of it.. Sooner or later you will quit, that's why I don't like rpg because like I said "It's a endless circle". Ofc, It might be fun to play it with friends but I prefer games like "Fable", cuz you won't get so stuck in it after you completed it and you won't spend your whole life on it... And ofc games like left 4 dead, shooting games.. But seriously.. don't spend your time too long on 1 rpg. 😀 Agreee?
What you're thinking of would be mmorpgs, not the normal kind. The biggest difference, of course, being that one is online, and the other (mostly) offline. What we're talking about is not endless and "pointless", as you say.

I know a few that dislike certain JRPG, but inevitably they still have the few JRPG they don't hate.
It's kind of hard to hate something that can be so diverse, it's not like hating sports games where they're all the same game...
