What are some good guro stuff?
I personally don't like the sexy stuff and prefer to see violence. Like Ichi the Killer and Suicide Club style.
I guess because I saw a bunch of messed up stuff while in the military so normal things don't make me feel feelings anymore. I need to watch the extreme stuff but not sure why I like it so much.
Does Ringu and Juon count as Guro? I like this kind of extreme horror too.
Anybody think of anything to add to this discussion?

yeah, i saw you started it 🙂
well... when i was little i loved horror movies, but i don't watch so often now. i saw ringu but the english version. i can't find the japanese one. i don't think those movies count as guro. they are not so disturbing.
i heard about a hungarian movie where eating is considered a kind of sport... and there is a scene where they vomit in a big pool or something like that...
i don't really like this sort of movies where there is a lot of violence and such, i prefer the lighter ones... there is a lot of shit in the world already and i don't want to see it in movies too
but tell me how did you find out about that movie?
whatever

A few years ago I was working in a video store and we got in Ichi the killer. I was immediately enthralled by the scars on Kakihara's (sp) face and took the movie home that night. For like 2 months straight all I could talk about was Ichi the killer over and over again. Then one of my friends said to me "Shut Up, you don't know anything, you should watch Suicide Club." Then I did, and it was amazing too. Then I went on the internets and started searching for shock horror stuff. I got into Battle Royale, and then Hostel, and then Juon and Juon 2 freaked me out (mostly because I have sleep paralysis and the opening scene of Juon looked like what I go through sometimes).
So that's how I learned about Suicide Club. There is more good stuff out there, I'm sure of it.

vinceasuma, None of the series that you mentioned are Guro...(In fact, you seem to be speaking about Gore, not Guro.)

NeoFireHawk,
I thought guro was short for grotesque when pronounced in the Japanisation of the word. It was s'plained to me that way a while back, but I guess I could be wrong. I seen some Guro websites that have all manner of things that I don't like, but included these as well.
Either way. I am willing to hear what you have to say about what guro is.

You're right. It is derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the English words "erotic grotesque nonsense" but Guro is not a synonym of the term Gore but a specific genre of erotic art that despicts shocking and extreme violence (mutilation, dismemberment, bestiality, torture, etc.) in a sensual and erotic manner. It is the manga version of the shocking explotation films genre.
(I did put this before on this thread, but I'll just copy and paste it here since I don't feel like writing another example of a guro manga):
There is a famous scene in a Guro-manga that could explain better what I'm trying to say: In "Mai-chan's Daily Life" (A manga about an immortal maid which is stabbed, cut apart, disfigured, beheaded, mutilated, disemboweled, burned, crushed, skinned and skewered while is being raped) there is a scene in which "Mai-chan gets abducted by a scary man who finds out that she is with child. He cuts her open and rips the child out, much to the protesting of Mai. He then cracks the baby's legs open and proceeds to rape it and after that, he put it in a blender" (That scene was so shocking that it gave birth to the internet meme "baby fuck"...)

So, is there such a thing as a difference between Guro and Ero-Guro? Like mutilation etc, and mutilation w/ erotic themes?
Clockwork Orange is guro, but not Hostel, right?
So I suppose I should have made this thread for Gore and not Guro. But at least I am learning somehting.

no...Guro is Ero Guro. That's why Wiki leads to Guro Taku.
Gore is hostel.

As ares6 said, Ero-Guro is generally shortened as guro and as such, both mean the same thing.

I don't think that you can apply the term Guro to a non-Japanese work (but even if they were Japanese they wouldn't be classified as Guro.)
I think that you still don't understand very well what this genre represents and for what I see the only way to do that is to read a Guro manga for yourself but I highly recommend you to not do that, believe me (they're too horrible, well, at least for me).

Be careful next time when using terms that you still don't understand completely since you could have been banned if you'd have posted this thread in a lot of manga sites (Be thankful that M-U has very flexible rules.)

vince man, you and a lot of dudes are funny, so, one of my friend's been in the military, and I visited him, sure it wasn't all hugs and kisses but it definitely wasn't crazy either. You saw messed up stuff, did the bathing in public scar you for life?
as for gore, I won't consider hostel to be gore, I seen parts of it, but I won't say it's gore, it's more thriller than gore.
and if you like gore, watch, 300, the new pathfinder or something that came out, simpsons the movie (technically choking is consider gore, and at one point bart goes point blank so that's pretty gory to me) There's lots of gore movies, Saw is also ok, not the third though

Oh right that discussion that was titled something like "disappeared scan groups" or something like that. I would logically look there for a guro discussion?

Why not? Clockwork Orange, they rape people and show disturbing images and cut people up.

Ive read Disk, the Mr. Sartobu Classroom, regarding mika, you after the rain, and some others. They were disturbing, but I thought they were a lot like Audition and Ichi the Killer. Why are they not the same?

Yeah notice that the thread is in the 18+ category and also 18+ is in the title too. I'm trying to learn about something, and I think they don't have a problem with that. I'm not posting gore or anything, but there is a bunch of info on guro manga on this site, so why shouldn't I ask?
And don't think I'm not thankful for this site either. I like this site a lot. 😛

Ha ha, I like bathing in public, but has your friend ever seen a person ripped in half by a 50 Cal machine gun? Have you ever seen a mass grave? Have you ever smelled a person who got shot and crapped their pants at the same time? Ever had to take a half a person, who happens to smell like burnt hair, sulfur, and poop and throw them in a mass grave? The smell of burning people mixed with poo is sucky and I can never be in the house when someone is cooking pork because I puke. Your friend is lucky and I'm glad you think it's funny.
Thanks for understanding. 😀
Ya so back tot the topic.....
Anybody got a title to recommend to me? I'm bored and wanna read something gross. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

@vince- like ares and hawk said, guro is ero-guro, rape/hentai where the victim is brutally slaughter/burned/etc while fucked (that is something to see if you wanna see some gross stuff). I've never heard of it to just describe violence
But if your after gross, uzumaki and tomie both are some creepy, murder, warping stuff. enjoy

Because Guro is not just about people raping others and showing mutilations, is about people mutilating others while they're raping them in the most gruesome and cruel way possible. And besides, Guro is a visual movement, so a work solely written in prose would hardly count.

So you do have read some Guro after all. I haven't read those titles, but a manga that is a "classic" of this genre is Mai-chan's daily life. If you read it and still don't see what makes Guro such a "special" genre...well, I don't really know what to say. (Ah, but I would recommend you that you avoid as much as you can reading that manga...it's horrible.)

They shouldn't (as long as you don't include any images...) after all, this is an informative site...

I hardly believe that those mangas are what vinceasuma is looking for. (Tomie is creepy and Uzumaki is kind of disturbing but I remember most of Junji Ito's works not for their "fearful" material, but for their strong melancholic finals.) They look like a kid's manga when they're compared with any Guro manga and since he said that he had read some Guro one-shots I think that they're too "soft" and "childlike" to his taste...
