Im using this topic to gather some tittles that will be used for the 2008 spring oscar awards.

**the series that can be nominated have had to have started in the spring season so things like gintama/bleach neither can shows that will start with the summer season can not be nominated for the tittles

I'd have to see all the categories before I would give my nominations. Is this only for the handful of shows that started since spring, or shows that have started since last summer?

Anyway.... I vote for:

Kurenai - Storyline/Funniest/Overall - Spring 2008

Kaiba - Storyline/Animation - Spring 2008

Point & Squirt

If films count, then I nominate Sword of the Stranger for best animation...

Real Drive for best TV animation, disappointing as the story and characters may be..

Mononoke, Kaiba and Hakaba Kitarou for best character designs/ generally looking awesome and different; Kaiba should probably be up for animation too.

Macross Frontier for storytelling, and for pure slick high-budget eye candy.

I can't remember from the dates if it was spring or last winter, but Ghost Hound should be up for best overall series.

as for answering gans questions no movies and ovas do not count and the point of it should thier be one like what's the point of the real oscars

also i think sequels should only count if thier was some gap between the prequel what i mean is please dont nominate those super long shows that are on thier hundreth episode already.

cren: ill add your suggestions but best sound is kinda... well marcross wins that by a long shot and i dont think alot of people pay to much attention to sound works

I don't know, but maybe this category should be divided into best manga to anime adaptation and best original storyline.

Subjective. Even if you just judge it on the openings and endings, it's definitely noticeable, and quite frankly I'm not a huge fan of most of the Macross soundtrack, quantity does not equate quality.

More importantly, is this just for spring or for the entirety of the previous year? You still haven't clarified.

And if movies and OVAs aren't included generally, I would move to have a "best Movie or OVA" category.

EDIT: And Bleach and the like are ongoing series, rather than sequels. You have to actually end to have a sequel.

If by that you mean soundtrack instead of sound effects, then I think the music, and the skill with which the director uses it, makes a hell of a difference to the quality of an anime. Even for people who dont listen to anime soundtracks stand-alone, the music can hook people or put them off subconsciously. With many of the Bleaches and Narutos and Gundams of this world the music makes all the difference between slow-moving and epic..

Macross wins though, I agree. Although most of those songs are terrible, they work so well with the series.. 😀

there is a danger you'll end up with too many categories though...

well the main reason was i didnt want to many topics but i do agree with you music does help a series.

i origanally wanted to have something like this done 4 times a year for each season but thats to much work so im extending the range to anything that began last fall

So anything within the last 3 seasons then? Seems odd. I would recommend either picking 2 (Winter + Spring) or just 1 or 4. 3 is an odd interval because it means you'll have some years with two and others with one. With any of the other methods you can have the same number each year. In any case, it's your choice since this was your idea. It doesn't make a huge difference either way.

I tried to thin down on topics, just for the record. If you actually mirrored the Oscars we'd also have "Best Seiyuu" "Best Male Seiyuu" "Best Female Seiyuu" "Best Supporting Seiyuu" etc. etc. etc.

i nominate Black & White is its English name, there was a movie for it, and it was amazing.

well cren i made this thread 13 weeks to early/late it should've made as spring or fall season started not as the summer one started but i wanted to continue on so i made it 3 seasons

That's what I figured.

Just to clarify the categories we have so far (and list my nominations based upon my understanding):

best overall- Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (although Kure-nai is definitely not far behind)
best animation- ef -a tale of memories- (This would be Kara no Kyoukai by a huge margin, but films aren't allowed)
best storyline- Kure-nai
funniest- Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
best sound- Spice and Wolf (Once again, would be Kara no Kyoukai)
best sequel or continued franchise- Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
best character designs- Kidou Senshi Gundam 00
