COMPUTER QUESTION.
Okay. So my old pc fried.
I decided to remove my internal HDD and I was going to put it into an external case enclosure thingy. I'm moving the data to a new comp.
Anyway, I WAS QUITE CARELESS, leaving it on the edge of the table, and my elbow just... knocked my HDD over. ;_;
I'm not tech-savvy, I just know the basics, so mind me if I sound stupid..
One of the small rectangles was knocked out (on the chip). I don't know what they're called. But they are rectangles that come in a group of four. Each rectangle is ABOUT (less than)2mm x 3mm. But the thing is, the specific rectangle that had gotten knocked out was a loner. It wasn't in a group of 4. But the rectangles look exactly the same.
Here's a pic.
I put tape on it so I wouldn't lose the piece. ^^;
So, my question is...
If that little rectangle was knocked out, will that prevent me from data transfer? Did I just kill my HDD? 😢

xD!
Well, I'm not too sure ...
There could be a long winded way to fix it...
It's not dead per se. The data is stored on the disks inside, not the chip outside (though the fall could've caused data loss...)
Generally, I'd say...you're screwed xD

thank you for the answer. ;_______;
That hdd of mine had previously crashed 4 times in the past. It's definitely terminally ill.
My friend said the chip was actually the "controller"(?). He did say the same thing as you.. about how the data is stored in the inside, not the chip. (well, I knew that, but what I didn't know was how the green chip affected the data inside XD)
So, to further extend my annoying question..
I assume changing the controller chip would make it.. work?
Well, at least bring it back to a stable condition. Stable enough for an external case enclosure.
If all fails. I will give this up! ;_;

Guh, this has been bothering me for awhile but I can't recall the word/term at all... ;_;
I know the term is "literary something." It refers to an excuse artists and writers use when changing facts to fit... their artistic or creative needs/goal.

Well it is still possible to get the data off of the it, but you are probably going to have some trouble reading the thing with your computer. As for the fall you could look up the model online and see what the manufacturer says is the minimum drop height.

I think the word you are looking for is license.

Like tactics said, the first thing I thought of was "artistic license".
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

@Scyfon&Brutelord
Thanks again for the help!
Now I know that getting (atleast some) data off my HDD isn't impossible! 😀
I'm so glad.

Why do some scan groups deny sharing of their releases via third party viewing sites such as Mangafox or Onemanga?
What are your thoughts on scan groups (mostly hentai scanlators) that take commissions? (Or any groups that ask for donations, which I understand is voluntary, but still wondering.)

For the first, it's mostly because it messes up the scans, because they need to reduce/resize the images so that the bandwidth isn't eaten up. For an example of this, take a look a the early Ares scans that are up on Onemanga, you can barely read them. Okay... you can still read most of the pages but take a look at this page <=That's what I'm reffering to, which is probably why KMTS didn't want their scans on that site for a while.
Second, I don't really care if they take Donations/Commissions. Hell, commission work is a great way to get things done... and at decent quality, because they're not going to screw around if their getting payed for it. If they want to show the people the commission work, then it's just a plus, yah?
Anyways, the second question seems more like a discussion topic rather then something that can have a simple answer.

Thanks for responding. I guess I can understand that reasoning.

Ooh good idea. I should make a thread.
