If some people get it wrong, then it isn't consistent, which would make more people confused. Hypothetically, people could end up capitalizing the first name and putting it first, making others think the first name should be first and capitalized...though flipping through the site, this doesn't happen too often...just a passing thought, I guess the system works pretty well though if it's consistent.

In order to create something you need a theme but not every story has a moral, maybe a message or a point but not a moral.

Though I guess if you're referring to manga, you have to realize manga is made in Japan. If you don't have hopes and dreams all you have is sucky office job working 12 hour work days only seeing your family on Sunday. If you're a woman, you're working AND taking care of kids or working the same job as the man.

Therefore something uplifting is needed in the media to keep the country from committing suicide.

It is much easier to write something with a point or message in mind, even if a bad one. Ie. If a character had no motivation to go forwards and conquer a dragon, he would not. Similarly, the plot can get skewed and may feel lost if there is no central focus.

There are some stories that are just "out there", or atleast, they cannot be proven not to exist. Crackfics and other bad fanfics could be one example, there may be some more sucessful ones somewhere else though...

IMO, people look for morals and points to a story. We're taught morals using fables because they are more engaging then just telling the thing that can't be done and more memorable to boot. In lit studies in schools, we're trained to look for what's important below the plot and why it is. This habit may transfer to reading materials outside of a curriculum or even writing stories. Even if a story may not have a point, we search for one because it may feel familiar or simply fit even if that wasn't the point.
Sorry for being rather generalist, I seem to have a problem with that...

Yeah, that's kind of the post-modern school of thought. But basically, things should be about something?

Stuff that isn't about anything at all (basically a piece with no theme or point) tends to be too unfocused to make anyone take a closer look, much less agree to serialize it. And serialization is actually a key point for why the average manga is about something: the author needs to hinge their epic on some point of exploration for the series to last for more then a few pages. Even stuff that seems like its about nothing tends to be character expolaration, which ends up having its own set of themes. Even 4komas usually end up with some sort of theme or point, and readers often get fed up with manga that seems to have strayed too far from its themes (Perfect Girl Evolution is a great example of this: it seems like the author has written herself into a corner 'cause she went too far in the gag direction.)
