Immortal Rain is the only one I can think of at the moment. It has a rough start but gets really good later on. The author took over 12 years to complete it I believe, and her art style improves dramatically. Additionally, there's a huge age gap, so if that kind of thing makes you uncomfortable I'd take caution.
