I'm not asking for links or anything. Just starting by saying that.

I was just wondering why Online Readers are so popular.

I mean to me they just seem slow and awkward compared to saving them and paging through them with like CDisplay or even the Microsoft photo viewer thing

I read online because I won't be using up so much space on my computer. If I really liked the series or something, then I sometimes download the whole thing and reread. Otherwise, I save as much space as I can just reading everything online. 😃

I use them because they are convenient. I don't have to download, unzip, and then view; it's straight from a browser. And it's more than just the current chapter, most/all of the previous chapters are a click away, as are countless other series.

Because it doesn't take that much space from your hard disk, I think.

I rather download the stuff and read at the pace I want than waiting for the pages to load.

I only read online if I'm already downloading something and so I'm reading while waiting or if it's like an IRC only release or I can't find a DL link. But other than that, prefer to download, a lot faster if you use CDisplay for viewing (no unzipping or scrolling just spacebar/pg down)

Also, I've found it just as fast as reading it on my computer, if not faster, once the download times are taken into account. (Although this might just because my computer is quite slow when it comes to downloading things.)

Plus they're nice because all the manga you want to read is all in one place.

Plus I get to read new titles to see if I like it or not without going through the hassel of downloading them. If I don't like a certain title, I can just go to a new page~ I don't have to waste space.

So people would go to the actual site & read the manga. I'm not in any group, but maybe it's so more people will go to their site? Or so the group can get better recognition?

You guys act like downloading takes a lot of room. Even a whole volume is usually like 50 MB and you can toss it when you're done.

And groups ask for waiting time because either A) They want Ad Revenue, B) They like to track interest based on hits to their site during releases or C) They just like getting traffic

I use online readers as a "preview" of sorts. If I see a manga that looks interesting, I'll read it on an online reader. And if I like it, then I'll download it.

It's convenient. As others have said, useful for previewing without downloading a bunch.

Viewing (but usually downloading) from the scanlation group's site gives them money. Also, many people can't wait for the length of the waiting time, so they just go directly to the site.
