3rd person all the way, it gives you a close enough view that it's almost first person, but you get to see your character, so you have a more personal interaction with the characters. Also this view is better for exploring and complex movements with the character, like jumping and platforming elements.

I like FPS games but I'm terrible with them - it takes me much longer to adapt to/finish one.
But both are fine, really.
third person for me, i have a terrible time keeping aware of my surroundings in fps games so i die 80 gajillion times before i beat the game

I prefer tps, cos u can see the character that you're playing and i think it's easier cos fps is just fussy with the camera and i kinda hate that.

I think it has more to do with the system you are playing on than the game. Computer s all the way for FPS and consoles for TPS. As for memorable games for FPS, how about Red Faction, Doom 3, Half-life, and Undying for a few. Games where you have to aim and move are much more difficult on a console whether TPS or FPS. Infamous, Uncharted, Resistance: Fall of Man and Halo to name a few. FPS usually have the most interesting weapons as well. Red Faction had the ultimate sniper rifle. A rail gun capable of detecting heat signatures allowing targeting and sniping through walls.
