Bishies: love 'em or hate 'em

should i quote myself again?
BECAUSE ITS NOT REAL. bishounen stereotyping in manga, that is.
as the stereotypes means looks is all for bishounen. and this is not exist today. so don't get expectations up by wishing there would be a man who always improve their looks, enhance their skill, and enrich their life (both material and immaterial) to please/satiate your eyes alone. if there is one, i think that would be an exceptional case 😐
(argument modified to gives the point more clarity)
Idyllic physical appearances for men depend on the culture, actually. Nowadays, in most places I do believe the most commonly appreciated style is "handsome", but I also recall reading somewhere that in Japan's history, beautiful men were the ideal. Not sure how related that is to this topic, but I wanted to put that out there. No one's ever "supposed" to be anything.
thank you, i'm enlightened. i cannot oppose your remaining paragraphs as we are not in opposition. i am in agreement on that from the very start.
but heck manga's fiction.
this is the very reason i replied. manga is a fiction, and at times, too far from reality. don't include manga's stereotyping into consideration of what is real. also, judging from the rest of your reply, you kinda miss my point as don't attack drawers' or writers' freedom to create what they desire.
you are free to enjoy whatever you want to enjoy. i enjoy something is logical, or something that's not too far to reality. bishounen concept in manga is hideous in my eyes, this explain my interest in clicking this thread.
as the last stressor,
sure there is pretty boys in reality. but i haven't once met one who follow manga's stereotyping.
grammar mistake is intentional, grammar nazis need their entertainment.

I don't like bishies. It would be more appropriate for me to say I don't like drawing bishies. They're far too easy to draw because they all have the same characteristics and they all look the same. So when I try drawing an array of them they all just end up looking stupidly similar because each embodies the same stereotyped traits that girls apparently lust after. So yeah, bishies drive me nuts because I hate how common they are. 😔
Love 'em, I consider them eye-candy. I do prefer the manly ones though.

But if it makes you happy to win on the internet, have at it.

It's a dislike (well, hate in this case, I guess) for me.
I prefer to read about a sensible (average but quality) protagonist who has eyes for your everyday guy with great qualities instead of the shiny boy that already has attention amongst the female (and probably male) population.
But most of what I read isn't shoujo where every single frackin` character has ginormous eyes with fluttery eyelashes (where the main character, even though she's drawn as a beautiful heroine, is defined as 'ugly' by the plot) cough ; I'm more orientated towards calmer, more imperfect art like Kimi ni Todoke and Koizora. Well, actually, I don't read shoujo anymore. s:
Yup,
Pika.

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

I like bishies with good personalities 😀 Like Kyo from Fruits Basket. As long as they don't flaunt their gorgeousness (exceptions can b made like Tamaki from Host Club, as he has a cute personality too), they can be great lead guys 😁
"That day, all female officers will be required to wear TINY MINISKIRTS!!!!!"

Depends on the character. If they are just for eye-candy, then I say hell no. If they have substance, that's fine.
Ex of Good Bishie:
Itachi Uchiha and Sasuke Uchiha - Naruto. Because they're suppose to be like the perfect blood-line. But, when you get over the looks the reader learns they're really imperfect. Itachi - Illness and deceit. Sasuke - Blinded by hate and his emotions feed on that anger. Blaming everyone for his problems. Complete EMO!
Byakuya Kuchiki - Bleach. He's so handsome, near beautiful. It masks his cold, deadly, and at times, his seemingly lonely side.
If you look at most bishie in 'good manga or anime', bishie usually have a twisted side. Death Note, Zombie Loan, Code Geass. Even the bishie in The Wallflower (Perfect Girl Evolution) have quirks. Kyohei being afraid of getting close to people and hating the fact he's a bishie.
Bad examples of bishie that I personally don't like.
Shinjo Mayu - Every bishie she draws have the same boring style and look. They all act the same. Usually, her work is smut and the plot hardly ever developes. I also don't like artist who follow the same style of art anf crappy stories.
I hate to say it, only reason I finished Inu-Yasha was because of how much time I invested in reading.
I would also like to point out, what one person considers a bishie, the next person may not see that character in the same light. This is because of facial patterns and what people find as 'attractive'. I know girls who think Kuwabara from YUYU Hakusho is hot, whereas I find him ugly and annoying. To each his or her own... I guess.

Haha agree! xD
As for me, I don't love, nor hate them. They're just fictional characters that everyone wishes to exist. There's no actual reason to hate them. They don't give a d*@#.
I agree on somebody, I prefer a plot where the protagonist falls for an average character.

thats because the ones hating bishies are actually intelligent ppl who dont see the point of participating in a poll when you can just write your opinion here.
whereas the ones pro bishies are mentally retarded, 13yr old fangirls who dont know any better....not that theres anything wrong with that.

Or maybe they just don't see a point to adding oil into fire . And haters have the tendency to talk more...
I don't really hate or love bishie. As long the artist have a good style, why not?
And personally, I prefer to keep member of shinshengumi from Hakuouki, Hibari from Reborn! and many others to stay as a bishie. Thank you.

Hate the corny, princely ones
Love the freaky, eccentric ones 😉
In short, being hot is always a plus when his personality is already so lovable
