A twisted, unexpected ending.

Others: "Gaah, that is so wrong!"
Me: "Yes, yes, YES."

I don't care that much about the ending, as long as I feel it isn't something outrageous. I still enjoy those from time to time though.

I love the romance ending particularly the ones that end in marriage. I'm a hopeless romantic..... But I like the ones where everyone is happy also.

I'm fine with any ending as long as it is conclusive. But I tend to avoid reading romance manga that ends with the death of the love interest.

Everyone dead.

That kind of ending has a more emotional impact with
me and then after it, I'll complain all the while, thinking -

"Why?! Why did they have to die?!"

R.I.P.

AGREED.

Quote from Mindflayer

[ X ] A coherent ending.

AGREED.

Nothing frustrates me more than getting to the end of a manga and going "Wait, what? Shouldn't there be a few more pages or another chapter to this?" Give us SOME kind of conclusion, some kind of wrap-up, otherwise, why even bother with a conclusion if we're going to be left wondering? It feels like the mangaka just didn't care anymore or was too wishy-washy to make some kind of final statement about his/her characters. I don't need every loose end to be wrapped up, but as far as the main character is concerned--the person I spent however many volumes reading about--I definitely do. If we don't know how the main character finally chooses to solve his/her problems and what the results of that decision are, then why did we spend however many volumes reading about those problems? I feel like my time has been wasted.

It feels like a slap in the face for all the time I've put into a manga when the mangaka drops the ball at the end. Despite having happily read 20 volumes of a series, a bad last chapter can totally change your opinion on things. A good example of this is the manhwa Click, which was pretty good for 7 volumes and then suddenly became very contrived in the final volume just to wrap everything up. To earn the ending that appeared in the last volume, the manhwaga needed another 3-4 volumes of development. Otherwise, some other ending was needed. One which fit what had come before.

That's really the key for me: that the ending be appropriate to what's been written. I may not like the guy that the girl ends up with, but if the manga has made me understand why she chose him, then I can accept it and not feel like I've been tricked.

That's not to say that a twist ending is bad. A twist ending is good IF it's done in a way that makes you go back and reevaluate the whole manga, like "Oh! Look at all of these clues that I've missed" type of thing--like The Sixth Sense. A twist ending just for the shock value which has no point to it is bad. An unusual ending like one where the girl decides she doesn't want any of the guys who've been fighting over her is also good (and often my preference), again, if the mangaka has given us some reasonable character-based reason why she would choose that.

Even if a series is cancelled early, a mangaka should do the best he/she to wrap things up in the amount of time he/she is given and then stick an author's note at the end explaining that the series got canned. That always makes me feel MUCH better about an ending if the author can own up to the fact that he/she would've liked things to have been different, like oh, OK, at least we both feel bad about the way things went and you didn't think it was fair either.

Actually. abrupt and inconclusive is the closest of the options up there.

In life the loose ends are never neatly tied up. I like endings to have a sense of resolution of story, but not necessary a resolution of all events, if that makes sense. However, there's a difference between lazy writing and an ending that I'm describing- you have have to at least resolve the primary conflict the plot addresses, if there is one (YKK & co are excused from this for obvious reasons).

Forgot the (Coherent Ending) really I just want something that makes sense and makes me feel satisfied with it.

unexpected endings (if done well) can be good as well.

I like happy endings, but I think I also like the abrupt inconclusive ending. I kind of got used to them when I kept trying to follow new mangas. 😀

I'd like unexpected and unpredictable end in a manga.

Combine it with:
a mixture of tragedy theme + mature/great plot = 😀
