In the U.S.
So I'm your stereotypical teenager who doesn't pay much attention to news and big issues in the country, but I happened to catch the news and heard that there were death threats towards Congress members because of the recent health care bill This is a really serious problem so what are your guy's opinions on it.

Well, I'm not that politically inclined and I don't really know much about this but I think Universal Health Care isn't so bad. However, in these days when people are saving money, paying for a compulsory insurance would make it hard for some people to make ends meet. For those people who have been trying to get health care because they need it but was kept being denied, this law is like a heaven sent to them since they can't be denied any longer.

😐 We have almost covered every single controversial topic in the chatter box.
ANYWAYS.
I live in Canada and just wanna say that our health care system seems to be pretty good. The only people in America that are against universal health care are looking out for the people who already have tons of money.

I don't have tons of money, so I don't want to be force to pay for healthcare, whether I like it or not.
It has it's good and bad points.

Well isn't the point of universal healthcare is that everyone can pay less?
European countries have been doing this system for
eons. It's about time they get along with the program~

The fact that it's compulsory is what I don't like. Whether I want it or not, I have to purchase some sort of healthcare that coincides with whatever the bill proposes. If I don't, I pay a penalty fine. So I'm paying either way.

Well for sure health care needed some serious revamping. I don't know how expensive this bill is going to be, but I guess we'll see in like 10-20 years. I like some points and dislike others.
Good things in effect immediately:
~insurance providers can't drop you if you get sick
~no more denying people based on 'risk'
~some preventative treatments are required to be covered by private insurance companies
~kids can be covered under a parent's insurance until 26 now
Bad things:
~fine for no insurance (although it makes sense because it basically just covers the cost of being able to be treated for nothing in the ER and poor people are exempt)
~People with good insurance have to pay extra taxes.
~Some states don't have to pay into it (I hate this, it was part of negotioation or some other bs)
~who knows what the hell else in in this bill (they added something about education? And I just don't know what's going on with Medicaid, medicare, and the public option. no one seems to know what exactly is in the bill)
~taxes start now and benefits other then the ones I listed are not going into effect until 2014
All in all I'm glad for change even if they tried to push it through so quickly. Over time it will probably change and the kinks will be worked out anyway.

The media loves to interchange between Health care and health insurance. They are both different things; everybody has Health care even the illegals but not all of people have health insurance, like young people in their 20s.

Where I sit that first one is called a bought vote.
and to the second one, exactly, I can safely wager a decent some that half the votes for it where made by people that haven't read it.
From what I've heard or read about it I am against it. They could've taken their time and made it great, but instead decided to force it through while still full of mysteries and holes. I would encourage my state to join the other 14 in the law suit at the moment, but thats just me. Oh, not to mention some unconstitutional bits are strewn about in it.

...Let's just say that the more than rich people (or those looking out for them) are against universal healthcare. I'm a poor college student, so I'm not paying taxes right now, but if this bill isn't repealed before America starts paying for it (or I do), I'll be, at least indirectly, funding things I'm morally opposed to (abortion, for one). I am proud to be in one of the states that has already started to sue the federal government over this bill. I am proud to consider myself part of the party that did not shove this through. And I will probably be more involved in the next set of elections than I ever have been before, trying to create a bit of balance up in DC by making it so the Democrats do not control every branch of the government (let's not go into the Supreme Court right now...).
And even though I'll probably still be in college when I'm 26, why on earth do I still need to be on my parent's insurance? There are places to get health insurance for students, even those with pre-existing conditions (like I have).
...yeah. I'm sorry if I offended anyone; I did try to tone myself down tonight, but I tend to get carried away.

Abortion isn't included in the bill. That's why so many people were confused when that guy started calling people baby killers. 😐
Just hours before the vote, Stupak reached an agreement with the White House under which President Barack Obama would issue an executive order confirming that the legislation would not allow federal funding of abortion. With that, Stupak and other anti-abortion Democrats voted for the bill, sealing its passage.

So what else are you morally opposed to?

I'm fine with it. It helps a lot of people out. Also, every other country has this.
