The reasons I've thought of moving to Japan is because I live in the U.S. If that's not enough of a reason then I'll explain. My mother is Mexican and my dad is a "race traitor." I've had to deal with skin heads, kkk and other racist since I was about 4 years old. Now, it's one thing to have your common, everyday people as racist and another to have a racist government. All the hypocritical and ignorant things that are happing now just make me want to pack up and leave. I know Japan has its problems and the people have a thing about foreigners (fortunately, my black hair, short height and pale skin should help me blend in) but I'm willing to try and find a home elsewhere. Besides, I want to get a taste of something a bit different than the Western World (though I know Japan is head in that direction). The culture, food and proximity to other places with different people and cultures makes Japan an appealing place for someone like me who wants a bit of adventure in life.

Also, I want a bishonen for a pet 😀

You have my symphaty dear leoak. Racism sucks.

What is shinjuku? What is this what is that? Muahahaha 😀

Shinjuku is where most of the foreigners live in Tokyo.

I'm probably going to be staying in Yamagata for a few months this fall to study Japanese. They have an exchange program with my university.

I'll probably end up moving there for a year or two at least to teach English, and spend a year there on foreign exchange. Probably nothing permanent though, although I'm 60-70% certain I'll end up somewhere other than the US. So maybe an extended stay? Regardless, I didn't vote in the poll because the two "yes" answers have an edge I don't really like.

Before anyone freaks out, I actually have valid, non-anime/manga related reasons for doing so. The first is simply that I don't like the US, and the images and stereotypes associated with it worldwide. The second is that I think that living in a country where you aren't a native speaker for an extended period of time is a valuable experience, and the only other language I have any proficiency in is Japanese, sadly. The third is my long time Japanese history obsession (I've had a thing for samurai since I was in 3rd or 4th grade) that lead to my study of Japanese and interest in anime and manga in the first place.

As to the actual environment in Japan, I don't really mind the whole gaijin thing. Yes, I have been there (only for a month) and despite the obvious attention that foreigners get even in areas like Shinjuku, I was never really bothered. That's probably just because I'm introverted and easily get lost in thought though.

Aha yea sorry I apologize for that. XD I didn't notice till after. Heh.

And good for you. You seem to have it all planned out. ^_^

And dhika, stay away from Japan. Go learn moar. I insist. For your own good. If you don't even know what Shinjuku is...

Shinjuku is where most of the foreigners live in Tokyo.

More accurately, Shinjuku is a business district with the largest train station in Tokyo (or rather, the most active one. I'm unsure about size). It's more famous for that than Gaijin...

For forever? Noo~. Visit? Sure.

And I don't really like people,so going to a place with that many would feel suffocating ,I guess. xD

Sometimes I wish I had a more pink-colored view of the world.

That wouldn't help you to survive with this world, would it? o____o

I think I'd move to Canada before I move to Japan. But that's just me.

Dito.

Not to mention I only know like.. 3 sentences in Japanese, which are very crappy anyway, since they were learned from watching anime..

No,but I wasn't really talking about surviving either. Let's just say I'm overly conscious about things. 😛 You see,I got anxiety(think that's what you call it in English). So,sometimes I can't help wanting to be a bit more naive.
Though it only lasts for a few seconds. 😀

if i had the chance to move there and live there for a few years i would like to do so .

Cultural experience and all .

Though its odd how ones own cultures seems less appealing than that of a different country.Top of the list would be seeing the cherry blossom bloom.

I probably wouldn't like to stay there for the rest of my life. Id like to be able to see more of the world.Ive never left my home country(India) before
Just want to explore the world see some different cultures experience them first hand.

well, the media is not a smart choice of a way to be effected on how you look at a country... sure anime and manga is the best thing anyone has made, just because they can effect the entertainment business doesnt mean they can give you the compassion and support you need wen you go there...
not saying that japan is a horrible country, but i mean ive been there before, i mean its just a country with few fun tourist places to go, relatively nice people and of course alot of anime and manga places to visit...

First off, I hate crowded places.
Second off, I can't stand the food.
Third, I don't know one bit of Japanese.
And fourth is that I would be seen as a gaijin no matter how much I'd stay there. Though I would've loved being born there...but not in a big city. And FAR away from any traces of ramen.

I'd sure as hell visit it, more than once actually (so that I could see every part) but if I could choose where to move, I'd certainly move to England. Because I know the language, the culture and the architecture simply rocks XD
