How do people react when you tell them you read manga?
Or try talking with them about a manga.
It usually goes like this for me:
Me: Ever heard about manga? I like reading it.
Person: Mango?
Me: Manga... Why would I read a mango?...
Person: I don't know...
Me: It's japanese comics... You know, like anime and stuff?~
Person: Anime?
Me :...
Me: The cartoons with big eyes.
Person: Oh!...
Me: Yes, so those are japanese comics... I like reading them...
Person: You read comics? Ok...
Me: What?... It's different...
Person: Ok...
Me: Well... I like it...
Person: Those are still comics...
Me: ... yes...
Me: Would you like to try?
Person: ...
Person: No.
Me: Why are you being like this?...
Person: I said no, leave me alone.
Me: Fine.
Person: So, random chattering
Me: 😐
You know, I've got tired of explaining it even to the few people who'd listen about manga...

And no, not to random people. "person" is a friend, or someone you know.

Ô_Ö I don't talk to strangers about manga. I don't really talk with people in real life about it either, unless it's actually them asking me about it, usually about anime series they want to know how the manga develops.

Around here there are actually people who know what manga is, but it's basically just associated with shounen jump series. An average conversation will begin with the assumption that I'm reading one of said series (because I do read in public- on buses and stuff) and almost invariably end with me attempting to explain why Monster/Planetes/whatever other series I happen to be reading is a good example of manga as a valid artistic medium.
Usually the reaction is "but it's still just comics, right?". The conversation then ends with a facepalm.
Generally though, my own rantings aside, I never just go up to people
(or close friends, for that matter) and start ranting about manga. It's just not in my personality, I guess.

me: mum do you kno...
mum: you've been drinking, haven't you? don't lie to me, you can't go out! don't even think about taking the car, are you insane?
me: err...i'm not going anywhere...and do you know what is manga?
mum: you mean mango? a fruit, why, is there a place where we can buy it? you want to eat mango?

LOL! My friends are all like that too...they know I read manga, but they don't really care. I'm like, you should read this, it's good, they say " is there an anime for it", I reply with a "yes or no". If yes, they MIGHT[very low chance] try it later when they have nothing to do at home, and if no, they just are like "oh ok..." and changes the subject to something else hehe. A few of them will watch some anime sometimes, but they just can't get into manga because it's just "pictures" and not moving animation.

Me: Okay Daddy Im getting really sick of you calling them "Black and white things" so next time you see me on the computer tell me to stop reading manga k?
It never works. With other people I don't normally bring up the manga topic unless I see that they are in possession of something anime related. Then I start talking about said anime before asking if they like any other manga. The end. orz''

normally, i don't talk to people who don't know about manga. but when i am talking about a manga and they come into the conversation late, they will be like "that sounds like a cool plot. what's it called?"
"[insert japanese name]"
"oh...manga" >_>
and then they just ignore the conversation for a while 🤣

Told my mother I read guy x guy "japanese comics"...
Now I hear "stop reading about fags, and do..." every now and then...

I'm lucky. I got plenty of manga friends. Only a couple know about my yaoi endeavors though xDD.

Is fairly easy
Show them a manga, and if they like it, then introduce them to the whole thing, they don't need to know they are reading a comic (there is a lot of baggage with that word) "Nerd and whatnot"
However if they don't like to read, is just POINTLESS

Half of them are like, 'What's that?' And I go into a brief explanation of what they are.
"Japanese Graphic Novels."
Very brief, ne?
Then the other half are either like 'Oh? Cool' and in secret they're asking the above question. There's a small part that ask what manga I'm reading because they actually know what Manga is. XDD;;
