A definite MUST read by asaliah1116 on February 14th, 2009, 12:53am

Admittedly, the art takes a bit of time getting used to and the repetitive touge scenes can be quite vexing (after a hill or two, all the mountain/hill roads looked the same) BUT for people who already have driving license and oft daydreamed of being a racer, be it amateur or pro, would definitely find this manga appealing in a sense that Shigeno-sensei under editorial supervision from Keiichi Tsuchiya had painstakingly explored and explained in detail the mechanics of a driver's potentials, the relationship between man and machine, and the sometimes awkward emotional scenes (especially with the opposite sex). Shigeno-sensei excells in narrating and subsequently breaking the 4th wall in a humorous lighthearted way. The technical terms may put most people off, especially if they had no idea what the heck they meant, but the excitement of the touge racing, despite the repetitiveness, is the one thing that will make you stuck reading from the 1st to the latest volume.

I don't know what it is about this series but it is amazing.
I'm normally one to read shoujo stories, and i never thought i would get into car racing, but whenever i start to read this series, or watch it i become infactuated and i can't stop!
the best story ever!

excellent by trunks84 on January 22nd, 2008, 12:01pm

I like it, I feel like he is improving. You actually see him improving and developing new techniques. It has even a realistic feeling. It's a good artstyle for the racing, ofc it doesn't even come close to the anime (stage 2+ up) and ofc he could've put more depth in his chars instead of racers only devoted to racing but I prefer it over sports animes like eyeshield 21, POT where they give the chars unrealistic moves. Tho I do like those shows I stil think Initial D completely surpasses them.

I wonder what kind of plot bully jesus wanted cause well most plots are simple.

not that hot by bully_jesus on November 21st, 2007, 11:09am

Hey guys,
I'm not a big fan, i do admit he does a nice job of creating car worship, the drawings aren't to my liking, and the plot is very very very very simple. The characters are likeable, but not very deep.
I still read amazing amounts of this manga, but i wouldn't cconsider it high quality

Read it by Chap on August 6th, 2006, 8:53pm

Strong story, Strong secondary characters. Tak's father is simply the real deal.
Very nice technical information throught the manga, really makes you want to learn these techniques :P

And i think another strong point of this manga is that it focuses a lot on Takemi's life, and the huge impact driving has on his personality and dreams. The beaten opponents and other characters manage to keep their rightful place in the 27 volumes i've read :)

Nice work. Read it.

absolutely beautiful by DARCnarc on May 28th, 2005, 12:46am

One of the best series out there, 4th stage sees less character development than the rest but still beautiful to behold

It's good... but... by Anonymous on March 12th, 2005, 12:37pm

I think this serie was pretty good at first, altho the manga isn't exactly as exciting as the anime (nor teh arcade at that hehe...), but it does get repetitive[removed by mod, please do not spoil]... so yeah, it's as you know the outcome all the time before the race.

nice starting story but then ... by vosh on March 11th, 2005, 1:44pm

It was an excellent setting, the first 6 volume was fun, then it started becoming repetitive. I guess the problem with racing story is, it is hard 2 make u feel the main character is improving & it is hard for readers 2 learn more about the topic. ( Compared 4 i.e: Prince of Tennis - New skill, Yakitate - New ingredient or new bread )
Lastly: the girls are not cute enough ( Not my art style )

Highly Recommended but you may lose interest later.
