Us Ladies Aren't Respected Anymore

I agree with DawnFlower. It seems like us ladies aren't respected anymore in the minds of mangaka. Being bought, and being used as a "toy" is what I constantly read in mature mangas. Many, if not all, mature mangas involve a weak heroine who either gets rape or being seduce by some pervert. A normal reaction to those type of stuff is either a kick and then run away, or yell "stop" without that "no... stop... don't" crap.

When will we be respected?

Good if you're not expecting too much

Desire Climax is smutty, cliche, and formulaic. The situations are exaggerated and the main characters are cardboard cutouts of the typical shoujo male and female leads. For the most part, everything seems to play out like a bad soap opera.

However, if you're willing to suspend belief and not expect too much from this series, then I can bet that you'll enjoy this manga for what it is. It's smutty fluff that doesn't require you to invest too much of your emotions or your brain for that matter. Despite its many flaws, Desire Climax does have some pretty nice artwork, which can usually do much to make up for bad writing.

Initially, the comic started off REALLY well, i mean... you will DEFINITELY be interested innit. However, around the 2nd or 3rd volume, the plot gradually bored me and in the end, the raping and all that is just too repetitive that i dont think it's all romantic anymore. I agree with some people saying how this comic can be a great use for those with raging hormones (yknow what i mean) though if you're looking for a romance... you've picked out the wrong manga.

*sighs* i was really looking forward to a good middle and ending throughout this story due to its unique beginning. I guess, i'll have to search for another one then. I've actually ended my reading at its 3rd volume ... pleaseeee, do tell me if i'm wrong about this comic and a great reason to continue my reading-session.

Shoujo at its worst

The story of an abusive boy called Shoei (Jinnai - family name), mostly called Prince, his target girl Mio and their journey through a ridiculous environment of stupid men/boys and stupid events with smut thrown in every now and then.
Honestly every male in this manga has issues that make them arses, the only half decent guy in there is a pimp. >.>
Which left me, as reader, with only the females, and there's only Mio and few side characters as her mother and some maids which can be ignored since their presence is too insignificant.
I found Mio a likable character, who has at least common sense and a nice personality but is weak and gives in easily. Another flaw is that she's easy to arouse and thus falls for the "Prince" who treats her often poorly. But after all it's a smut manga. But it wasn't worth reading for the smut part either.

If you want smut read the Forbidden Love Mangas (#1: Kindan no Koi wo Shiyou, #2: Zoku - Kindan no Koi wo Shiyou, #3: Kindan no Koi de Ikou - cliché but likable) or if you want drama on top try Hapi Mari - it's labeled Josei but its content is more Shoujo.

Now back to Desire Climax - The events and story are like from a bad soap opera*. It's even for a Shoujo too much. If at least the main male would be likable but I really wished Mio would just kick is head and run for it. Sayonara my Prince.
I only finished it because it was on my reading list.

*Spoiler:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
We have kidnapping in childhood there which is of course forgotten and remembered later. After they fall in love it turns out Mio is the half-sister of Shoei. Just to have it later turn out - after they had sex - that it isn't her but her brother who is the unrelated one to her family and the half-brother of Shoei.
The gardener suddenly reveals his hatred and his scheming to take down the Jinnai family. As he is the son of the man who kidnapped Mio in her childhood and did a suicide afterwards. Daddy died and the Jinnais took the boy in who later wants to destroy the family... no words, honestly what a stupid turn of events.
The brother, now not-brother, makes harassing moves towards his "sister" (eeeh) and sees Shoei as his rival but the one who suffers is always Mio. The father of Shoei and the half-brother, whose name I've forgotten despite I just finished the manga last night, lol, well the father seems to be nice but he ignores a lot even when he knows most stuff and lets things just happen, what a shitty parent.
Then there's the glasses fetish... almost like Horatio from CSI Miami... glasses on, glasses off, glasses on, glasses off etc.

If you want to know the end. Well mom comes out of the hospital, of course this is made as a dramatic story element as well. She wants Mio out of this environment and moves with her and the not-brother far away. Well, since Mio is now totally in love with Shoei it is too late for such actions. Shoei follows her. End.

i absolutely loved it.....

Mio is one of my favorite heroines. im into luke warm protagonists where she isnt too strong or too weak. i have seen MUCH weaker before and normal people that arent too extraordinary are okay. whoever thinks she's weak is probably going of the "shoujo girls strength scale". I don't think she's stupid to want her family to stay together. It's just heartless not to. I'm not gonna lie about the cliches there's a lot of them but i still love it. this was my very first smut and as of lately i decided it to re-read it and i still adore it even though i have more experience with manga. i liked the twists and it wasnt messy in any way to me unless you weren't reading it properly. it jumps a bit but i dont think there needed to be growth in certain areas because the main goal was to focus on the present rather than dwell on the past. I love the art too. this is personal interest but i love myself a megane and possessive lovers and i think i got it in this!

Of course I dont think that Prince should have been so mean and showed more love towards Mio but as far i know that's MY ONLY COMPLAINT. This is the manga that gave me my smut obsession, and i will defend it with any means necessary!!!!!

i've definitely read worse

forgive me as i finished this awhile ago, so my memory is a little foggy, but i thought this manga was fine for smut. i didn't come into it with high expectations, and i was satisfied. plenty of drama, of course, but i found some of the twists were shocking enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. maybe i just haven't read enough of this genre, so they could've all been overdone cliches, but hey, they worked for me.

as far as noncon - many yaoi are far far worse with the "let's not call it rape cuz in the end you liked it. somewhere. deep down. yeah." and from what i remember, she was pretty ok with it at the time. i'll agree the main guy was too forceful, but this IS a smutty shoujo & that is just the archetype i guess.

one thing i'll agree on w/ all the haters - she really needs to learn that he has a real name that is not "Prince" at least it wasn't "miaka/tamahome"-level annoying, though. Bottom line: come in expecting smut and disengage your brain, & you'll get a fairly entertaining ride.

Don't see what the big problem is.

First off let me say this: Why are so many people complaining about "OMGZ SO UNRELISTEC" . I've seen shojo manga that have been tread far deeper into the "Wow that's impossible." waters. There was some mix up with familial matters, so what? There were twins that got married in Great Britain but had no idea they were related. So life isn't as cut-and-dry as some of you may think.

It has a lot of smut but you can't tell me you didn't expect it after reading the first chapter. Also you have to remeber Shouei has been in love with Mio since they were kids, but he's the only child of an incredibly rich family so he used to getting what he wants without any resistance. (funny how people say Love Celeb is better when that male lead does the same thing).

I do agree that some of Mio's decisions when dealing with Shouei's attitude are not very well thought out and most times completely stupid, but at least she decides not to just put up with it. I liked Mio's and Shouei's relationship better before all the wackiness but it's still satisfying.

Very good art, with some interesting characters, and an interesting male lead earn it this:

obviously, only if there are demands for this kind of plot/setting will there be manga like this.

I'm fed up with the ownership type crap mangaka are chewing up like quickcash.
it's sick to think someone being owned and abused like the one in this manga can love the very person abusing her.

the story (when all the smut is filtered out) is mediocre, cliche friendly (only the sick and twisted ones) and generally doesn't go anywhere.

To think young girls are reading this (assumption made based on category spec)... I just think it's morally wrong to fill their mind with this crap.

Sucked

The plot is so.. FAKE. Logically, things like that aren't supposed to happen, ok! It's.. it's.. undescribable. Yeah, it sucked so bad that I can't even describe how bad it sucked. All I can say is that it pissed me off dramatically.

It was actually okay at the beginning-ish, but towards the end it was like, "Okay, WTF?!"

And the artwork wasn't all that great, either... o_O" I actually disliked it. Sorry for breaking hearts, but I've seen better. And I'm saying this nicely, too.

i gave it a 6 because it entertained me a little, but i had to stop because it just got stupid. it's boring, cliche and i hate stories when weak girls suddenly fall for guys that molest them.
